2 Purpose of the meeting CSIS Strategy Session, 5-7 April 2011 To establsih a global-regional-national infrastructure with acapbilities and linkages for operationally sustainable production and flow of information To develop an implementation plan for the CSIS component of GFCS

4 Timelines as proposed by HLT By end 2013. Complete an organisation building phase, including establishment of a secretariat to support the Framework and necessary management and executive (technical) committee structures. By end 2017. Facilitate access to improved climate services globally in four priority sectors (agriculture, disaster risk reduction, health and water). By end 2021. Facilitated access to improved climate services globally across all climate-sensitive sectors. Involve at least eight United Nations entities and participate in at least USD 250 M of climate-related development projects

8 Infrastructure (1/2) GPCs to expand into areas of data, monitoring and CC and provide access to NMHSs Support establishment of 15-16 RCC – Climate Data Management – Climate monitoring – Climate Prediction – Climate projections Establish principles of operation (through GDPFS like) WIS compliance of CSIS elements (GPCs, RCCs and NMHSs)

9 Infrastructure (2/2) Strengthening of NMSs – Climate Data Rescue – Infrastructure for downloading high resolution datasets including reanalysis, hind cast, proxy and paleolithic data – Climate Services Toolkit – Climate projections products in close collaboration with Universities Interaction with users – Communication with national stakeholders (NFCS) – Communication with users (NCOFs) – Scientific publication Supporting activities to mitigate and adapt to climate change
