WARM-UPS Kung Fu punches Side lunges and slices

THE MOVES APOSTROPHE: High-slice – ‘Ding. ‘Apostrophe

APOSTROPHES Apostrophes can be used to show possession in two ways. *To show something belongs to a SINGLE owner. *To show that something/things belongs to a GROUP of owners.

We’ll start with SINGLE owners… Zak s book was on the shelf. Sarah s pencil case was full of equipment. Matthew s planner was missing. Tony s work was excellent. Lily s pen had stopped working. ‘ ‘ ‘ ‘ ‘ What do you notice about where all the apostrophes are when it is a SINGLE person or object that owns an item.

TWO OR MORE OWNERS When you are writing about more than one person owning something, your apostrophe should be used like this. The students books were piled neatly on the shelf. ‘ What do you notice about where the apostrophe is for more than one person owning objects?

Have a go at these ones … The boys team lost the match 4-0. The girls PE kits were folded neatly in the changing rooms. The Parents evening started at six ‘o’clock. The teachers report grades for their classes were due this term. ‘ ‘ ‘ ‘

Single and Group Apostrophes Steven s shoes were wet. The teachers break room was empty. The soldiers boots were lined up neatly. Rikishis goal was amazing. The patients waiting room was full. Supermans cape flapped in the breeze. ‘ ‘ ‘ ‘ ‘ ‘

To Finish … Feet together. Hands together like you’re praying. Bow.
