… You try to break me, but you see, what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. The lyrics of this song accounts for Oprah’s personal experience. When she was six, she was sent to Milwaukee in where she was sexually abused by her own male relatives. Suffering emotionally, she ran away and lived on her own at the age of 14. Although such experiences, when taken to extreme, can lead to suicide and depression for many, Oprah, however, stood taller, and stronger to go on with her life. “Challenges are gifts that force us to search for a new center of gravity. Don't fight them. Just find a new way to stand.” “Think like a queen. A queen if not afraid to fail. Failure is another stepping stone to greatness.” “Breathe. Let go. And remind yourself that this very moment is the only one you know you have for sure. ” - Oprah Winfrey

…We are not what you think we are, we are golden, we are golden. “If you want to accomplish the goals of your life, you have to begin with the spirit.” “The biggest dream you can take is to live the life of your dreams.” “ The whole point of being alive is to evolve into the complete person you were intended to be.” “When I look into the future, it’s so bright it burns my eyes.” During the time when Oprah was born, racism was still prevalent. Thus, African Americans were unfortunately looked down upon. Oprah’s grandmother, however, believed Oprah to be a golden/gifted child, and taught her to read at an early age. Thus, at 3, Oprah was reciting poems and Bible verses at the church. By believing in Oprah, she was able to transform Oprah’s life. In this music video, MIKA wears clothing that resembles Kings apparel. By such appearance, MIKA is portraying an idea that teenagers have freedom and power to do transform their lives. The idea of freedom can also be seen through him joyfully moving around on the stage.

“Lots of people want to ride with you in the limo, but what you want is someone who will take the bus with you when the limo breaks down.” “What material success does is provide you with the ability to concentrate on other things that really matter. And that is being able to make a difference, not only in your own life, but in other people’s lives. It’s not about the money, money, money. We don’t need your money, money, money. We just wanna make the world dance… Although Oprah was the richest African American of the 20 th century (Forbes magazine), she is not at all profligate in her spending. She donates millions of dollars to various organizations, including her own organization such as The Oprah Winfrey Operating Foundation for funding the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls in South Africa

“The struggle of my life created empathy- I could relate to pain, being abandoned, having people not love me.” “Where there is no struggle, there is no strength.” - Oprah Winfrey Qu’ importe I’endroit ou le context on a toujors un bon pretexte pour tombre nos “fruit of the loom”….. Boum boum boum The lyrics, which are in French, represents Oprah’s life when she was young (symbolizes her muddled life). Since I am not at all fluent in French, and do not know what lyrics mean, except for the words boum boum boum, (which I’m interpreting as boom boom boom), These boum boum boum can be described as the more significant adversities that occurred in Oprah’s life.

“ Surround yourself with only people who are going to lift you higher.” “You CAN have it all. You just can’t have it all at once.” “I don’t think of myself as a poor deprived ghetto girl who made good. I think of myself as somebody who from an early age knew I was for myself, and I had to make good.” … Have you forgotten how you would make me feel when you drag my spirit down? But thank you for the pain. It made me raise my game. And I’m still rising, I’m still rising. Yeah. This lyric fits well with Oprah’s life as she was constantly “pushed over” by her close friends and relatives, but overturned the situation by overcoming those difficult situations.
