1 Posting & Creating a Resume With Minnesota’s Job Bank A Guide for use in the Minnesota WorkForce Center Resource Rooms Presented by Kevin Honetschlager – Marshall WorkForce Center Program Specialist (507) 537-6236 kevin.honetschlager@state.mn.us www.mnwfc.org

2 Okay, you are seated at one of our Resource Room Computer Terminals. You’re first steps are: 1.Move the Mouse so you can see the Resource Room Organizer on the Computer Screen 2. Click on the tab marked, “Job Searching” 3. Double click on the text that says “Minnesota’s Job Bank” Click on the “Job Seekers” button to begin your Job Search Now a Window will open and display the following web page: Let’s Begin... STEP 1

3 If you have an account, enter your “User Name” and “Password” and proceed to Page 3. Otherwise click on “Registration” and proceed to Page 2.

4 Becoming a Member of Minnesota’s Job Bank You now have to accept the Data Privacy Notice. Click Yes and then Click Submit

5 STEP 3 Social Security Number and Last Name You must now enter your social security number and last name; this will keep your account unique and will never again be displayed to you on this internet site. Click Submit.

6 STEP 3½ Logout Screen If you receive this logout screen, it probably means someone has created an account for you already. Contact your local WorkForce Center to get your username and password. If not proceed to step 4.

7 Completing the General Information At the very least, enter all required information. The more complete you are, the better your resume will look. When finished, click Submit.

8 User Name and Password You may use your own combination, however, the WorkForce Center staff suggest you use our standard for usernames and passwords, so we can help you easily remember it: 1. Username = first 5 lower case letters of your last name and the last 4 digits of your Social Security Number 2. Password = Last six digits of your Social Security 3. Click Submit and proceed

9 Statistical Information The next step is completely up to you whether or not you want to submit statistical information. If you choose Yes proceed to the next step. If you choose No proceed to the next page.

10 Personal Information You may enter as much or as little of this information as you want. When complete, click Submit.

11 You are now logged in To begin creating your resume click on the “Resume” tab.

12 You will now begin to use the Resume Builder. As you can see, only four areas are required: Objective Skills Desired Occupations Desired location/Schedule

13 However, if this all that you complete, your resume will look as the sample below. Bruce B. Wayne 8281 Manor Way Gotham City, MN 55111 651-555-1234 Bruce.Wayne @WayneCo.c om Therefore we recommend that you complete, at a minimum, the optional sections of Education, Certificates/Licenses, Job History, and activities along with the required fields.

14 Beginning the Building Process To begin, you need an objective. To do so, click on either one of the objective links.

15 Enter in your objective and then click Submit. OBJECTIVE

16 1. To complete the step for Education, click it from the list. Education 2. Click Add Educational entry.

17 Education (cont) Enter your information and click Submit. Repeat as necessary. When you have completed your educational history, click Done.

18 Click Certificates/Licenses. Certificates/Licenses Click Add Certificates/Licenses

19 3. Enter your information and click submit. Repeat as needed. 4. When you have completed, click Done.

20 Job History 1. Click Job History. 2. Click Add Job. 3. Enter your information and click Submit.

21 Repeat the process as necessary. When finished, click Done.

22 Skills (required) is the next step. Click Skills and then enter as much info as you can, about four sentences at most. When you have completed, click Submit. Skills

23 “Activities” is the next section. Click Activities and then enter as much info as you can, again, about four sentences at most. When you have completed, click Submit. Activities

24 Notes Click Notes. Enter any extra information or comments you’d like a possible employer to know. Then click “Submit.”

25 Desired Occupations In Desired Occupations, you will choose what kind of work you desire. Use either Keyword or Category searching, press submit. Choose up to five jobs from the list (hold CTRL and click each desired title) and click “Select Occupation(s)”

26 Desired Geographic Location/Work Schedule Click Desired Location and Schedule. Choose how close you want to work, to what zip code, as well as the type of work for which you are applying. When you have entered the information, click Submit.

28 Your final step: Click “Post on Internet” to make it viewable by employers. It is important to note that the only way you will be able to modify this is to log into the Minnesota’s Job Bank and go through the categories like we just did. Congratulations and Good Luck!
