SERIT Contributo per la preparazione di HORIZON 2020 Cultural Heritage and Built Environment Francesco Soldovieri, Laura Moltedo

Introduction H2020, Cultural Heritage: The aim of this activity is to provide knowledge and innovative solutions, through adaptation and mitigation strategies, methodologies, technologies, products and services for the preservation and management of tangible cultural heritage in Europe at risk from climate change. 5.6.1. Identifying resilience levels via observations, monitoring and modelling 5.6.2 Providing for a better understanding on how communities perceive and respond to climate change and seismic and volcanic hazards Keywords: Monitoring, damage assessment, modeling, resilience strategies, Integrated approach for management and preservation of CH

What we Need To ensure cultural heritage and built environment has a tremendous social and cultural impact ( earthquakes in Abruzzo (2009) and in Emilia Romagna (2012 ) and Pompei collapses,…) This need has an ambivalent character: -the Safety, with reference to the risk associated with environmental changes and natural disasters, -the Security, with respect to damages due to human acts and, in particular, to criminal and terrorist events. The fruition of cultural heritage also asks for Safety conditions of the users as, for example, visitors of a museum or an archaeological site.

Technological needs General requirements To account for both the heterogeneity of environmental hazards and human factors and to provide the impact of the solutions/tools in all the different life phases of the cultural heritage and built environment Main needs Development and use of the observation and sensing technologies in order to ensure a long-term monitoring of the cultural heritage Possibility of a quick damage assessment that requires the development and use of fast operating sensing/observation technologies

Thematic of Work Security and sustainability of cultural heritage and built environment -Research and innovation efforts should be done for the promotion and improvement of the Safety through monitoring strategies -The results of the monitoring should be used even as “constraint and input data” to structural models of the heritage so to improve the vulnerability analysis and assessment -Quick damage assessment, after a crisis event, requires a fast analysis of the status of the structure also in terms of dynamic behavior

Sub-Thematics Monitoring and quick damage assessment of cultural heritage and built environment development and integration of sensing/observation techniques, with a null or low-level of invasiveness, able to perform a monitoring (multi-sensing, multi-scale in space and time) main key ingredients: advanced systems based on wireless networks, ICT system architecture, integration of non-invasive diagnostic techniques based on electromagnetic and / or acoustic sensing. Control and monitoring of the works to the public and the Safety of visitors -development of integrated systems designed to ensure the Safety of the heritage (movable, immovable, archaeological and natural), the Safety of visitors and to increase the Security conditions of the fruition. -main key ingredients: technologies based on the analysis of time-related observations for automatic recognition of people, the automatic analysis of scenes and the identification of potential non-licit behaviors. Issues of privacy of individuals.

Sub-thematics Systems for the integrated management and remote Security of movable works development of strategies to ensure the Security of the movable heritage during transport, main key ingredients: ICT tools to enhance the Safety of fruition and planning in the frame of the Emergency Plans (identification of objects and procedures for emergency evacuation); to mitigate risks during emergency transport; to support organizational aspects (impact assessment and development of protection schemes of the artistic furniture). Emergency management in occasion of criminal acts and disasters development of techniques able to efficiently perform a crisis management and to avoid permanent damages, main key ingredients: tools, such as robotics ones, to enhance the capability of a dynamic survey and planning of interventions. State of art and novel observation technologies able to monitor in real time the evolution of the phenomena. Use of predictive and simulation techniques. Fast and appropriate response plans. Training modalities (total immersion and virtual environments or serious gaming techniques).

Project Ideas Development and validation of an integrated approach to CH monitoring and quick damage assessment against natural hazards at European Level (Integration Project) Development and implementation of an integrated system for the Safety and Security of the fruition and the related emergency situations Development of ICT/sensing tools for movable heritage Safety and Security
