Centro Internacional para Estudios del Medio Ambiente y el Desarrollo Sostenible PROJECT TITLE: Caribbean Geographic, Environment and Sustainability Database, GIS and Remote Sensing Resources (CAGES) Project Goal –Contribute to the development of the Caribbean by facilitating access through a computerized capability that provides the same accurate and updated environmental and natural resources information to all interested entities. Project Objectives 1.Establish a centralized capability that provides access to information, training and technical expertise in environmental and natural resources. 2.Design, install, test, operate, validate and maintain an updated data warehouse with a comprehensive and accurate environmental and natural resources geographic information system (GIS).

Centro Internacional para Estudios del Medio Ambiente y el Desarrollo Sostenible PROJECT TITLE: Caribbean Geographic, Environment and Sustainability Database, GIS and Remote Sensing Resources (CAGES) CAGES Project responds to: 1.Need for a reliable, faster, more accurate and updated natural resources information that is integrated as environmental profiles for the different regions of the Caribbean. 2.Need for a faster process to gather all the information required for project development, permits, policy making, environmental impact declarations, utility documentation, disaster prevention, assessment and evaluation, etc. 3.Need to locate the environmental databases in a site that facilitates access and expertise to all interested sectors: government, private and communities. Expected Outcomes: 1.GIS databases for environmental and natural resources of the region. 2.Integrated information for planning projects, mitigation initiatives, social assistance, disaster prevention and management, archeological preservation and conservation, etc. 3.Center that supports decision makers by providing a complete collection of comprehensive information using state of the art technology for accuracy and precision. 4.Public access to environmental information. 5.Training site for government agencies.

Centro Internacional para Estudios del Medio Ambiente y el Desarrollo Sostenible PROJECT TITLE: CENTER FOR ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE, EDUCATION, AND RESEARCH (CEJER) PROJECT GOAL: –Enhance community understanding and knowledge in responding to environmental issues that impact their health and quality of life. PROJECT OBJECTIVE: –Establish a Caribbean resource center that serves as a hub for information, training, and technical support in managing environmental affairs.

Centro Internacional para Estudios del Medio Ambiente y el Desarrollo Sostenible PROJECT TITLE: CENTER FOR ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE, EDUCATION, AND RESEARCH (CEJER) Center features: –five (5) collections of references: environmental justice; environmental health and sciences; environmental policy and regulations; environmental communication and education; and community based organizations. –five (5) workstations to provide access to electronic libraries around the world, and to provide visitors information in geographic information system (GIS) format. CEJER website – main vector to disseminate and provide access to information through the center’s interactive website that will be linked to UT’s virtual library. The website will have interactive features to request further information about themes and topics within the center’s scope.

Centro Internacional para Estudios del Medio Ambiente y el Desarrollo Sostenible PROJECT TITLE: CARIBBEAN ENVIRONMENTAL AND EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT CENTER (CEMEC) PROJECT GOAL: –Establish a capability in the Caribbean, collaborative in nature, that provides information processing, services, and training in environmental and emergency management to the Caribbean and Latin America fostering international collaborations that supports a global environmental and emergency management information network. POTENTIAL PARTNERS AND COLLABORATORS: –Pacific Disaster Center (PDC), NASA, FEMA, USGS, NOAA, Center for Disaster Management and Humanitarian Assistance (CDMHA), University of South Florida (USF), Tulane University

Centro Internacional para Estudios del Medio Ambiente y el Desarrollo Sostenible PROJECT TITLE: CARIBBEAN ENVIRONMENTAL AND EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT CENTER (CEMEC) PROJECT OBJECTIVES: 1.Use PDC data/information management and modeling/simulation capabilities to assist with the development of the Caribbean risk/vulnerability assessments necessary for the successful execution of the FEMA-sponsored multi-hazard mapping project. 2.Generate support in the Caribbean from local, regional, federal disaster managers, operational agencies, academic institutions, and other potential collaborators. 3.Locate a single site in the Caribbean to place the databases and information processing systems necessary to develop the environmental and disaster and/or emergency fusion center and ultimate products such as the susceptibility profiles and sustainable growth plans for the region. 4.Develop a strategic plan for long-term sustainability of the center and its capabilities addressing technical and business development activities. 5.Implement state of the art disaster management information technologies and best practices in emergency information management and dissemination customized to the Caribbean region and cultures.
