Topic 8: Motivation

2 2. Goals of This Lecture Understand the nature of motivation.
Explore the relationship between motivation and integrity. Maintain motivation when assignments are challenging.

3 3. Motivation Defined Motivation describes how a person moves forward in life. Motivation is the energy that moves us toward a goal. Having the desire and willingness to do something.

4 4. Motivation Assessment
Complete the Motivation Assessment (worksheet 8-1) on page 97 of the Student Success Guide.

5 5. Motivation : Where Does it Come From?
What’s important? Actions (the way you pursue goals) demonstrate: Values Beliefs Integrity

6 6. Integrity & Motivation
Trustworthy Honest Fair Respectful of others Responsible Sincere Aims to “do the right thing” The decision to pursue goals with “right action.”

7 7. Kathy, Sarah, Self-Esteem & Motivation
Assignment #1 Complete three posture assessments on three different clients and provide a detailed treatment plan for an eight week period.

Why does Kathy feel motivated and Sarah feel angry and depressed? Sarah thinks massage school is stressful and disappointing. What needs to change for Sarah to enjoy school?

15 15. Process Motivation How do you feel about motivation as a result of the lecture? What are your attitudes to integrity and motivation overall? How might this understanding change your classroom experience?
