3 Arrival & Breakfast – 7:20am Late Bell - 7:45 tardy slips necessary after 7:45 at front office We begin each day promptly at 7:45. Please help your child have a smooth start to the day by helping him/her arrive early enough to use the restroom and take care of any morning work. Arrival

4 If your child is a car rider, the person that picks them up in the back MUST HAVE A CAR TAG printed by our front office. If you need a car tag for yourself or someone else that has permission to pick up your child, please contact your child’s teacher as soon as possible. Drivers without car tags will be asked to go to the front office to show identification before picking up their child. If your child is going home a different way than usual, please notify the teacher in writing or call the office by 2:00 pm. Ride Change Note should include: date first and last name of child Teacher name new mode of transportation parent signature

7 E – Excellent S – Satisfactory N – Needs Improvements U – Unacceptable Student/Behavior Expectations Students received a behavior sheet with the expectations. This will be used as a communication piece to track your child’s behavior. Please initial it each night.

8 Rewards Punch Cards 5 punches and they will pick from the following: Stinky Feet Day, Bring a Stuffed Animal, Lunch in the Classroom Each 6 Weeks – Special Awards Day (E 0-3) Consequences verbal/eye contact warning Documentation on Behavior Card Loss of rewards Student/ Behavior Expectations

9 Read each night Handwriting homework and reading bags will be coming home after parent conferences.

10  School Website – Classroom schedules, newsletter, examples of student work, strategies, what is going on in class  Email – Reminders, Newsletters, what is going on in class  Instagram-Reminders, Newsletters, exemplar models, student work  Remind 101 – Allows you to receive a text message with brief information. 11 Opening/Mini-Lesson: 5-10 minutes where the teacher teaches one new strategy, models the strategy and students practice. Work Period/Independent Writing: 20-40 minutes where students work independently. Teacher is working with small groups or doing individual conferences on their individual goals. Closing/Share/Wrap-Up: 5-10 minutes where the class comes back together as a group and discusses what they may have learned that day, clarify any questions that student may have, and or share student work. 12 Reading Expectations Beginning of the year o identify 10 uppercase letters o identify 10 lowercase letters o produce 10 letter sounds o write their name using primarily lowercase letters o read a simple book with repeated text (Level A) Middle of the year o identify 20 uppercase letters o identify 15 lowercase letters o produce 20 letter sounds o read text level 3 End of the year o identify 26 uppercase letters o identify 26 lowercase letters o produce 30 letter sounds o read text level 6 (Goal 8)

13 Writing Expectations Beginning of the year  Student selects random letters, letter-like shapes, or environmental print.  Students draw pictures to represent their words.  By October their goal is to record 10 letter sounds from a passage read by the teacher.  Picture matches the topic. Middle of the year  Student selects letters representing several dominant sounds in a word and may use some environmental print to convey meaning.  Uses letters that progress from left to right, top to bottom on the page.  Records 20 letter sounds. End of the year  Student links one action/idea to a picture or assigned topic.  Capitalizes ‘I’, spells using dominant vowel & consonant sounds, spells some words conventionally.  Uses upper and lower case letters more consistently and leaves spaces between words.  Records 30 sounds.

14 Most Social Studies Concepts are incorporated into the reading workshop via children’s literature, textbook use, and additional resources. 15  Fluency  Problem Solving Kindergarten math is centered around using math skills within problem solving. We focus on important vocabulary to help decipher the problem.  Stepping Stones Curriculum This work is done in their math notebook and math workbook and will be kept at school.

16 Science Workshop 5E Instructional Model The 5 stages are: Engage Explore Explain Elaborate Evaluate

17 5 Senses Light, heat and sound Magnets Rocks and Water Weather and Seasons Daytime Sky and Nighttime Sky Living and Non-living Animal Needs Plants Most work created from the 5E model is recorded in a science notebook. This notebook will remain in the classroom in order to review, and expand upon, scientific concepts throughout the year.
