Information about creating hyperlinks, the menu, multiple choice questions and slide management will be presented as you work through the module. This section should also appear in each module – use the same slide title. –It should contain points set out in a similar format that inform the learner: –Who the module is aimed at –Instructions for using the module –Recommendations for further learning To type over the text in the existing bullet points, highlight the text with the mouse and type over. To add bullet points in a text box, click the Bullets icon on the tool bar at the top of the page. Each time Enter is pressed, a new bullet will appear on the next line. How to Use this Module

This is also a section that should appear in each module, using the same slide title. The section sets out what the learner should be able to do, describe, discuss etc after they have completed the module, following the format of this slide. Make sure that you use learning outcomes that are clear to the learner: e.g. it is easier for a learner to know whether or not they can describe something than whether or not they understand something. Use this sentence to start: By the end of the module, you should be able to: Remember, highlight text in existing bullet points and type over, or press Enter at the end of a sentence to add another bullet. The PowerPoint slides in the template consist of text boxes, pictures and hyperlinks. Clicking on any text will show its container text box. To add another text box, choose Insert > Text Box from the menu or the icon from the tool bar on the bottom left of the screen. Click on the page and drag the mouse to create a box. Don’t forget to change the slide titles! Highlight the text and type over it or click after the last letter and delete using the backspace key Deleting text boxes To delete an entire text box, click the border and press delete. Adding Text

This will change only the highlighted text. 2. Click on the text box border and choose options from the tool bar. This will change all the text in the box. It contains elements that are applied to every slide such as the university logo, page numbering or navigation menu. Once these elements have been created in the master view, they can only be changed through the master view. To see the master slide, select View > Master > Slide Master The master slide for this module has a blue title box, simple slide design, navigation menu and page numbers. The Master Slide

Alternatively, design your own slide by picking the background colour. Right click on the slide, choose Background and pick the colour from the drop-down box. Make sure you click Apply to All slides. Format colours and borders of title boxes and navigation menu boxes by right clicking on the text box, then choose Format Text Box. Format text in the master slide in the same way as formatting text in individual slides and text boxes. The choices will appear on the right, where you can also select simpler colour schemes. All of the templates and colour schemes can also be customised in the master slide. Slide Design

The outer box is a rectangular AutoShape. Choose the shape from the tool bar and drag the corner to resize, and the border to relocate in the required position on the page. Remember it will apply to every slide in the module. Format the shape by right clicking on the shape and choosing Format AutoShape, the alter the fill and line colours. The list of pages or sections is simply a text box with numbering. Click on the number option and add in the same way as bullet points. For each link, add an AutoShape, resize to fit around the page title in the list, then format the shape with no fill and no lines. This becomes, in effect, an invisible box. Right click in the area of the invisible box and choose Hyperlink. Click Place in This Document (circled in red), then select the link’s destination from the list of slide titles, and click OK. Go to Insert > Slide Number. It might be helpful to display: Page 1 of 20 Type in ‘Page’, add the slide number as above, then add ‘of 20’. Author To add the author’s name as a footnote on the bottom of each slide, simply add another text box in the required position on the master slide. Institution Logo Add the institution logo on the master slide in the same way as a picture and move to the corner of the page where it will not overlap any text or titles. Either go to Insert > Picture > From File, or select the icon from the tool bar on the bottom of the screen. Date Create a text box, then go to Insert > Date and Time. Choose the format in which the date should be displayed then click OK. Note that this will be the date you add the date item; it will not change to the current date when you open the file unless you tick Update Automatically. Adding Other Details

Hyperlinks to the different destination types are all done in the same way: Insert > Hyperlink then choose the destination type from the menu Hyperlink a word with underline To link a word in a sentence such as click here, highlight the text to be linked, then insert the hyperlink.click here Hyperlink words with no underline Type the words as normal, then add an invisible AutoShape over the words with no colour and no lines. Add the hyperlink to the shape, as described on the Navigation Menu page. Or, select the text box and add a hyperlink to the whole text area. Hyperlink pictures or diagrams Either right click on the picture or diagram and select Hyperlink, or go to Insert > Hyperlink.

You should see the slides lined up on the left. Move a slide Hold the mouse down on the slide you want to move, then drag it to the required position. Delete a slide Right click on the slide, then select Delete Slide Add a slide Right click on a slide, select New Slide to add a blank slide in the next position. Hidden slides Hidden slides are useful for information that can be reached by links, but do not show when a learner views the slide show. Right click on a slide, and select Hide Slide.

Start by laying out the question and the answer choices on one page with text boxes. At the end of each option, add an AutoShape for answer buttons; in this example the shapes are given a dark colour fill. Place a text box in each AutoShape with a, b, c, etc for each option. Make sure the letters are a contrasting colour. This MCQ is taken from the Malaria module by Dr. Yusuph Haruna

Hidden slides are indicated with a mark through their number: Each of these hidden slides are the response to the learner clicking on an answer button. For the first slide, add feedback for answer a in text boxes. The tick here is a picture. Repeat this for each of the answer choices. Note the Back button on the answer page. Create an AutoShape, add a text box with the word Back. Add a hyperlink to the shape that links to the question page. Without this, the learner will not be able to go anywhere from this page! When all answer choice slides have been completed, go back to the question page and hyperlink the answer buttons to the relevant answer slide.question page

In the same way as invisible AutoShapes were linked in the navigation menu, and visible AutoShapes and hidden pages were used in the Multiple Choice questions, links to information can be added to parts of diagrams, pictures and text. On the first slide, there was a text link to authors and reviewers. Look at the hidden slide at the end of the presentation - this is the link’s destination. Learners may click on it if they want to, but the information is not automatically shown in the slide show. To create a diagram with clickable areas, insert a picture, and add invisible AutoShapes to the areas to be clickable. Add hidden slides at the end of the presentation, and link each one from the AutoShapes on the diagram. Just like the Multiple Choice answers, each slide is a response to the learner’s click, and could contain further information that may be useful for the learner. This is especially useful if all the information you want to convey cannot fit on one slide. While exploring can be valuable in a learning experience, it is important that the learners do not get lost within the module. Always include the navigation menu, and always have Back buttons if linking to hidden slides.
