2. Academic Expectations ALL students are expected do their best. ALL students will be provided with support to help them be successful. –Teachers, Counselors, Aides, Administration ALL students will be given an opportunity to get involved in extra-curricular activities (sports, clubs, etc.) –2.0 (C) grade point average –8 or less points for three highest citizenship marks ALL students will be recognized for academic excellence. –Honor Roll, PACAA, Gold Cord (8 th Grade)

3. Behavior Expectations Electronic devices are not to be brought to school. Academic Integrity – Cheating is NOT LEARNING Hats, beanies or bandanas are not to be worn inside the school building. Only headwear with Chaparral logo is allowed on campus. No “hoods” on campus unless it is cold. Gum is not allowed on campus at any time. Hands-off policy – No physical contact (pushing, horse playing, goofing around, play fighting) Use appropriate language. Respect EVERYONE on and off campus

5. Before School Get to school on time. Wait in the front of the school before 7:10am Stay in the MPR between 7:10-7:25am Stay in your designated areas after 7:25am –Sixth grade – between tennis and basketball courts –Seventh & eighth grade – lunch area No wandering around. Check-in through front office if you have to meet a teacher. Rainy Day - Activities room is open.

6. Tardy Policy Unexcused Tardies – If a student is tardy to school, the following consequences will be implemented:  1 st Violation: Warning (documented)  2 nd Violation: Break detention. No shows for break detention will serve lunch detention.  3 rd Violation: Two Break Detentions  4 th Violation: After school detention (Tardy Time) for 1 hour. THIS POLICY WILL ALSO APPLY FOR STUDENTS WHO ARE FOUND OUT OF CLASS WITHOUT A HALL PASS

7. Academic Integrity Cheating restriction outside of classroom before school, at break, at lunch, or after school. –Copying someone’s homework. –Letting someone copy your homework. Cheating restriction set by teacher classroom policy (which may include the following): –Using materials not allowed on tests or quizzes (cheat sheet). –Talking to someone else during test or quiz. –Passing notes during a test or quiz. At home: –Plagiarism: Cutting and pasting information from the internet and portraying it as your own work. –Turning in another student’s work and claiming it as your own.

Academic Integrity Consequences –1 st offense: Referral sent home (parent signature) Parent phone call Zero on assignment –2 nd offense: Performance contract (zero on assignment) Detentions (depending on severity of incident) Parent phone call –3 rd offense In-school suspension (zero on assignment) –4 th offense Meeting with Mr. Bhojani

9. Break Time You have 5 minutes to exit advocacy class and get out of the main building to the upper field Can use locker at the end of break, not during break If you need to go into main building, get a pass from teacher Stop playing when the bell rings. Don’t cut across courts.

10. Lunchtime Walk to the lunch area. Do not cut / save spots in the lunch line. Use your own id #s Finish your food in the lunch area before going to the field. Drinks are allowed on the field. Pick up your trash – KEEP CHAPARRAL CLEAN. Do not throw food (carrots etc.) Consequences –Back of the line –Trash pick up

12. CELL PHONES School Policy –Cell phones should be turned off –Cell phones should not be visible during school hours –Cell phones should not be used to text parents if you feel sick or for any reason (forgot HW) Consequences –1 st time: Reminder of policy & phone can be picked up from the office –2 nd time: Phone will be held in the office and a parent will have to pick it up

13. Hallways Clear hallways quickly – don’t wait for friends Don’t go to your lockers during break / lunch Walk in the hallways Be respectful of other classes that may be in session. DON’T BE LOUD as you walk in the hallways.

14. After School No loitering outside of campus. No wandering around campus. –Locking gates –Going to the appropriate bathrooms Use cell phones once you’ve cleared the gates Indoors – need to be supervised (after school club or HW Club). Exit building through MPR and side gates (not through empty classrooms) Don’t walk through the parking lot Take proper routes to go home

15. Late Start Days School starts at 8:45am If you get to school before 8:25am, you need to be in the MPR You cannot walk around campus or leave campus if you have been dropped off at school

Behavior violations that could result in suspensions Physical injury to someone else Using force or violence against someone Possessing, using or selling a controlled substance, tobacco products and/or drugs Committing robbery Possession of dangerous objects Bullying including using an electronic act (cyberbullying) Damaging school property

17. What is Bullying? Definition: Bullying is a form of aggressive behavior that is intentional, hurtful, (physical and psychological), and/or threatening and persistent (repeated). There is an imbalance of strength (power and dominance)

18. Facts on Bullying Imbalance of power: Bullies use their strength, popularity or the power to harm to control and manipulate others. Intent to cause harm : A bully is a person who does not do things by accident. The bully intends to physically or emotionally injure a person or group of persons. Repetition : Typically incidents of bullying are not a one-time thing. Bullies target the same person or group over and over again.

19. Types of Bullying Verbal: This type of bullying usually involves name calling and or teasing Social: Spreading rumors, intentionally leaving others out of activities on purpose, breaking up friendships are all examples of social bullying. Physical: This traditional form of bullying involves hitting, punching, shoving and other acts of intention physical harm. Cyber bullying: This method of bullying involves using the Internet, texting, email and other digital technologies to harm others.

20.
