{ Unit 2 TJ Jeter

 Earth works like one big system that breaks up into subsystems. These systems include: 1. Lithosphere – contains all cold hard soil of the planet. 2. Hydrosphere – all liquid and gaseous water on the planet. 3. Biosphere – Contains all of the earths living objects. 4. Atmosphere- All of the air in the earth systems. 5. Cryosphere- All of the earth glaciers, icecaps, and icebergs. Earth as a System

 Each system of the earth works together to make the planet habitable.  Examples: Water from the hydrosphere heats to create clouds put into the atmosphere.  The atmosphere and hydrosphere makes it possible for the animals on land and in water to survive. How They Work Together?

 Each system has a group of science that goes with that system.  Biosphere has all living life so they have sciences like biology.  Lithosphere has sciences like geology. Etc. Sciences in each system.

 All living objects would die due to the lack of oxygen. Which would also kill the plants that need CO2 for photosynthesis. This would cause a domino effect on the rest of the planet. What would happen if the earth’s systems didn’t work together?

What Are the Fields of Science That Study Earth and Space?

Geoscience ● Geoscience- The study of earth. ● This field of science focuses on the atmosphere, biosphere, and other systems.

Astronomy ● Astronomy- The study of space ● Astronomers study matter in outer space, especially the positions, dimensions, distribution, motion, composition, energy, and evolution of celestial bodies and phenomena.

Cosmology ● Cosmology- The study of the universe ● This field of science studies where the universe came from and how it developed.

Meteorology ● Meteorology- Study of the atmosphere ● Meteorologists study climate, weather, and weather forecast.

Oceanography ● Oceanography- Study of the ocean. ● This field of science studies the physical and biological properties and phenomena of the sea.

EQ: in which ways do subsystems interact? Ethan Williams

subsystems There is 5 different subsystems. people usually are only familiar with 4 of them but there is a total of 5. each of these layers has a key role in how we live our lives. lets explore them

Hydrosphere The hydrosphere is anything that has to do with water and how we interact with it.

Atmosphere The Atmosphere is anything that has to do with gases

Biosphere Biosphere is anything to do with life, anything that is living has to interact with this subsystem.

Geosphere Geosphere is physical earth, the formation of rocks and how magma flows is all apart of Geosphere

Cryosphere And finally the Cryosphere, it has to do with everything that is frozen.

In what way is the Earth considered a system?

Connection between hydrosphere and biosphere The connection can be seen in all ecosystems such as swamps or coral reefs! Amphibious animals rely on both the hydrosphere and biosphere for food and shelter

The atmosphere and the biosphere All living forms of life are considered a part of the biosphere and all life forms require some type of breathing, either oxygen, carbon dioxide, or nitrogen.
