19 Corporate Social Responsibility
Silindile at St. Vincent's School for the Deaf: Silindile is profoundly deaf in both ears and lives in an informal settlement in Kliptown, Soweto. In December 2007, Highveld Stereo made an appeal to secure school fees for one year for Silindile. Aon agreed to cover her school fees at St Vincent’s school for the deaf in Rosebank, not just for one year, but for her entire school career until matric graduation. In addition, Aon also covers the costs of her hearing aids, stationery, school uniform and transport costs. With the support of Aon and contributors, Silindile and her family are able to eat healthier food, afford clothing and personal items and provide an excellent education for Silindile that would otherwise be out of reach. Silindile is progressing well at St Vincent’s School and has a real passion and love for drawing and art. The Columba 1400SA Leadership Academy: provides values-based leadership programmes to empower young people from tough realities to drive sustainable social change. Social stability demands a broad-based sense of shared leadership. Our young people and consequently our society in general are at unacceptably high risk due to poor educational standards, high drop-out rates at school, massive unemployment, HIV and AIDS which have decimated the caring moral foundation of family structures, materialism and well-publicised general moral decay in society. The Columba 1400 South Africa Leadership Academy is an effective and innovative youth development intervention. Besides sponsoring children to go on the leadership training with Columba 1400SA, Aon also actively recruits young people from the academy for our learnerships.

20 Corporate Social Responsibility
Bursaries: With our focus on education, Aon sponsors six bursars who are currently studying risk management and actuarial studies at Wits and the University of the Free State. Their studies are aligned to our core business with the aim of Aon being able to provide them with employment opportunities after the completion of their studies. Afrika Tikkun - Early Childhood Development Centres in Mfuleni, Western Cape: Aon South Africa has stepped on board to assist Afrika Tikkun, a non-profit organisation which has been delivering vital services and programmes in Mfuleni, a historically disadvantaged community on the outskirts of Cape Town in the Western Cape. The community, which consists of people, are trapped in a relentless cycle of poverty. In order to expand Afrika Tikkun’s reach within the community, a ‘Community Centre of Excellence’ was built. Aon South Africa provided some of the funding for the centre, which consists of an early childhood development centre for 250 pre-school children; a youth development centre with multi-purpose sports hall; and a primary healthcare building with expanded administration workspace. Aon invested funds to equip one of the classrooms with educational resource materials as well as the kitchen. Aon continues to support Afrika Tikkun in terms of the early childhood development centre which was completed in time for the start of the school year.

24 Sponsorships

25 Aon Manchester United Sponsorship, lets build a United company!
Aon’s name has been splashed across Manchester United jerseys for the past four years. Aon saw its initial jersey sponsorship as a way to raise awareness of its brand around the globe and to give the company’s 66,000 colleagues around the world a compelling conversation starter. The original phase of the partnership surpassed its goals increasing brand awareness among global business decision makers by 36%. The alliance between Manchester United and Aon was officially re-launched last April. Aon has become the first partner at the team’s training center, which has been renamed the Aon Training Complex. Aon is also the presenting partner on all of Manchester United’s preseason tours, which takes the popular team out of England to places where most of its estimated 659 million followers live. Additionally, Aon is the principal partner of the Manchester United Business Network, formalising Aon’s role in providing advice to the team on critical issues like risk management, insurance, talent, development, and health and wellness. What this new iteration of the partnership will do, says Phil Clement, Aon’s global chief marketing and communications officer, is substantively aid Manchester United in a way that serves as a model for others. “The partnership gives Aon a powerful set of assets and brings our firm into the heart of Manchester United in so many ways,” he says. “It provides Aon with a unique opportunity to showcase our innovative products and solutions in a way that will strengthen the performance of Manchester United both on and off the pitch, while also serving as a powerful vehicle to create greater understanding and preference for our advice and solutions with current and future clients.”

26 bizhub Highveld Lions and Aon South Africa Sponsorship
Aon South Africa secured the Associate Sponsorship rights of the bizhub Highveld Lions team in The sponsorship include the Aon brand emblazoned on the official playing kit used in the CLT20 Competition which is broadcast both locally and internationally as well as the domestic Ram Slam T20, Sunfoil Series and the Momentum One Day Cup competitions. This sponsorship enables Aon to provide a greater level of localisation and home grown relevance through cricket, one of the most loved and supported sports in South Africa. Our Associate sponsorship makes perfect sense in terms of our brand alignment and we’re delighted to be associated with a prestigious team like the bizhub Highveld Lions.
