3.  DSM-IVR AND ICD-10 AGREE MOSTLY ON DIAGNOSTIC CRITERIA

4.  Symptoms should have been present for more than 2 weeks

5.  Five of the following symptoms  Within the same 2- week period Representing a change in mood or behaviour in the person

6.  Find out what these criteria are.

7.  Depressed mood most of the day  Diminished interest and pleasure  Loss of appetite  Eating excessively  Lack of concentration  Psychomotor agitation or retardation  Fatigue  Feelings of worthlessness  Lack of concentration – indecisiveness  Recurrent thoughts of death  Distress or impairment in social, occupational functioning

8.  Can’t be accounted for by other physiological factors  No bereavement involved.

9.  Fewer milder symptoms
