3. W HAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THE T REATY OF V ERSAILLES ? The treaty of Versailles basically forced Germany to accept the responsibility of causing the war. They were forced to make reparations to the price of 32 billion dollars which is roughly 393 billion dollars today. Germany’s economy was already in complete disarray. The treaty also forced Germany to surrender control of their colonies. Initially at first Germany didn’t want to sign the treaty but they were left with no other choice, So, they eventually signed it under a new government.
