5 Search engine results pages  Companies can register with the bigger search engines ( Google, Bing & Yahoo) so that websites appear high up in a list of keyword searches or pay for links that appear when a user does search.

6 Pay-per-click advertising  Pay per click advertising is a form of online advertising. It involves websites or web pages hosting ads for other companies. If a surfer clicks on an ad, they will be redirected to the advertisers website. The website or web page provider will receive a payment for every ad that is click on.  Pay per clikc advertising uses what is known as an affiliate model. Advertisements or links to a company website are placed on other website (affiliates) and in return the affiliate site recieves a percentage of the income from any customer that clicks through. Google – AdWords – Yahoo are just some examples. So here HP will need to pay Yahoo or give them a percentage if a customer purchases that product.

7 Banner & Pop-up advertisements  These are advertisements that appear at the top of web pages or pop up on web pages. These are often animated to capture attention. Additional Reading

8 Email marketing  Uses emails to send advertisements to customers ( both potential customers and existing customers. however, customers see this type of marketing as spam if it is sent as unsolicited bulk emails Unsolicited meaning: not asked for; given or done voluntarily. tinyurl.com/873apan Additional Reading

9 Success Criteria – Online Advertisement  Create a PowerPoint that:  Identifies different types of online advertising Search engine results pages Banner and pop ups Email marketing pay per click advertising  Describe the common features of online adverts Key information, images, colour scheme, a link, new things, persuasive text  Explain how pay-per-click advertising works  Explain what online data storage is  Identify benefits/drawbacks of each of the above  Add links to any useful websites you came across Email marketing examples

11 Homework - Online data storage  Data storage is another type of online service. Many organisations are providing facilities for you to store and back up your data on their computers, and to make files available to share with others. The current term used for online data storage is ‘cloud storage’  Data backup is a method of making copies of files. These copies can then be retrieved if disaster recovery is needed. For the following be prepared to share some examples of online data storage organisations (Research if need be) and research the definitions of the keywords below Upload Download Algorithm

12 Plenary/Starter  A local shoe store plans to expand its business and has just uploaded their first website. As a web expert you will need to give them 3 pieces of advice to a business considering online advertising.
