1. Engineering Design Central Concepts: Engineering design involves practical problem solving, research, development, and invention/innovation, and requires designing, drawing, building, testing, and redesigning. Students should demonstrate the ability to use the engineering design process to solve a problem or meet a challenge. Ma.Science and Engineering Framework 2006

1.1Identify and explain the steps of the engineering design process: identify the problem, research the problem, develop possible solutions, select the best possible solution(s), construct prototypes and/or models, test and evaluate, communicate the solutions, and redesign. Identify the problem Research the problem Develop solutions Select the best solution Construct a prototype Test and evaluate Communicate the solutions Redesign Ma.Science and Engineering Framework 2006

Identify the problem Identify the problem in need of a solution. You shall create an office chair in a professional setting. Ma.Science and Engineering Framework 2006

Research the problem Before I had started I had gone online and looked up some office chairs. Each gave an idea as to what I was going to create. Ma.Science and Engineering Framework 2006

Develop solutions Brainstorm After deciding what the relative design would be I had to think of what kind of space the chair would fit such as a home office or a cubicle.

Select the best Possible solution(s) I had decided that a stationary chair with spinning seat And adjustable height would be the base on which I Would build my chair. I also wanted to put it in an office Setting with a desk, desk lamp, a small clock and Computer. Ma.Science and Engineering Framework 2006

Construct a prototype I stated with the base of the chair and worked my way up. As I continued my design I tinkered and tweaked different Parts of the chair. Ma.Science and Engineering Framework 2006

Test and Evaluate the solution(s) After I completed the first design I went on to create a back round that would give my chair the look of an office chair that was comfortable and efficient in its purpose. Ma.Science and Engineering Framework 2006

Communicate the solution(s) The problem given to me was to design a chair and a setting For where it would be used. I started by researching different Designs for my chair. I wanted one that looked comfortable And would keep someone focused on their work rather than Playing with their chair. After coming up with a few designs For the base of my chair I chose a chair that would not be Able to move on wheels. I then started work on the shaft that Would allow the chair move up and down. I then built the chair And its arms. Ma.Science and Engineering Framework 2006

Communicate the solution(s) Part two After completing the chair I had to decide what materials the Chair would be made out of. I decided that vinyl cushions would be the most economic material to make my chair. The Based and shaft of my chair would be made out of chrome With different shines. The base would have a lower shine Than the shaft because it is always being stepped on and That would ruin the appearance with shoe prints all over the Base. Ma.Science and Engineering Framework 2006

Communicate the solution(s) Part three Ma.Science and Engineering Framework 2006

Redesign After putting in the environment the chair would be found In I adjusted it to fit in with the size of the desk and other objects found in the design. Ma.Science and Engineering Framework 2006
