The industry is consolidating. Changes in banking regulations have expanded the scope of products and services offered by banks. Advancements in technology allow banks to meet the needs of more customers in more effective ways. Competition within the industry is intensifying. Since the mid 80’s, the number of banks has steadily declined at the rate of about 400 banks per year. Banks can now offer everything from deposit accounts to mortgages to investments and insurance. Customers now have access to view their accounts and make transactions 24 hours a day.

8 Careers in Commercial Banking
Relationship Management The “Banker” or “Relationship Manager” serves as the primary point of contact with the Customer. Division, Group and Market Managers manage the customer portfolio from a business development perspective. Credit and Risk Management Underwriters work with the Customer and the Banker to structure each transaction so that it provides a solution for the Customer and is an acceptable risk for the bank. Credit Approval Officers manage the customer portfolio from a risk management perspective.

10 Getting Started in Commercial Banking: The Commercial Banking Development Program
12-24 month program Opportunities throughout Indiana, Michigan, Illinois, Ohio, Kentucky, Wisconsin, Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and Arizona. 2-4 six-month rotations Classroom education overview of commercial banking credit analysis skills and product training ongoing skill development training On-the-job experiences analyzing customers structuring deals participating in customer meetings Successful candidates in this program have a Bachelor’s in Business with a major in Accounting, Finance, or Marketing and a minimum GPA of We look for people with strong analytical skills as well as excellent communication and leadership skills. Training is very important to us at Bank One. The first six weeks on the job are spent in the classroom learning the fundamentals of commercial banking. You then move out into your six month rotations. During each six month rotation, analysts attend additional training courses approximately once a month.
