Cluster Background Gujarat is a leading state for milk production in the country. It has got a major hubs in milk processing. Asia’s second largest dairy ‘Dudhsagar Milk Cooperative Dairy’ is one of them. More than Village level co-operating society are functioning. Average Daily Milk collection is to the tune of 80 lakh litres. Raw material used and product types: Milk, Ghee, Butter, Butter Milk, Paneer, Shrikhand, Milk Powder, etc. Contd..
3
Cluster Background No. of units in the cluster : (Including Chilling Centers) The situational analysis of BEE has recommended a list of 22 units, where further activities is being undertaken. These 22 Units are representative of the entire cluster in terms of technology used and/or products manufactured. Project consists of Detailed Energy Audit of 7 units and Preliminary Energy Audit of 15 units. Preparation of Cluster Manual Preparation of DPRs Capability Building of LSPs
4
Milestones Achieved Identification of the stakeholders has been done.
In line with the model established in PCRA, Seminar of Stake Holders has been conducted. This introductory workshop/seminar is attended by various dairy units,LSPs & Bankers. Job of Preliminary Energy Utilization Survey is being carried out. Job of Detailed Energy Utilization Survey is to commence shortly. Other jobs would follow as per schedule given by BEE.

%Share of energy in cost basket: 5 to 7
Energy Performance Major energy consuming equipments: Milk Pasteurizer, Cream Pasteurizer, Wash Water Pasteurizer, Refrigeration System, Incubator Room having electrical heaters, Spray Dryers, Blowers, DG Sets, Air Compressors, Lightings, Pumps, Motors, Boilers. Types of fuels used: Mainly Electricity, but also HSD, FO. %Share of energy in cost basket: 5 to 7

Possibility of Energy Conservation
Possible areas of energy conservation: Refrigeration System, Powder Plants, Air Compressors, Dryers, Building, Boiler Service, Lighting, Powder Pckg, Maximum Demand, etc. Likely energy saving potential: 10 % to 15 % of total energy consumption. Likely technologies for energy efficiency improvement: (i) Solar Water Heating System, (ii) Trigeneration system / VAM (iii) Installation of De-super heater for refrigerant. (iv) Installing hot water fan coil unit in place of electrical heaters & ceiling fans, Contd..
7
Possibility of Energy Conservation
(v) installing VFD on ID & FD fans of Spray dryers, (vi) DG Set performance optimization, (vii) Optimization of compressed air generation and utilization, (viii) Improvement in Lighting, (ix) Use of energy efficient pumps. (X) Improvement in Regeneration ratio of pasteurizers (XI) introduction of 2 temperature levels for different usage
8
Possibility of Energy Conservation
Results of Preliminary Energy Utilization Survey conducted by PCRA for 15 No. Dairy Industries. Total Energy Consumed by 15 Industries: KLOE ( worth Rs. 27 Crs.) Savings identified : 1437 KLOE ( worth Rs Crs.) Saving Potential = %.

Issues and concerns in the cluster for improving EE
Financing issues: The Dairies are mainly in Cooperative sector having interventions from the government, it is necessary that the initiative is brought in sync with government style of investments to get maximum benefit of it. The few private players may be dealt with in the present financial proposition.
