The kings of Israel were chosen as the leaders of Israel because the Israelites wanted one leader in charge and to unite the people. Although, they were kings, they still had to obey God. Kings were anointed with Chrism There were three kings –Saul, David, and Solomon

Saul From the tribe of Benjamin Chosen and anointed by the judge, Samuel After not following God’s wishes to destroy the the Amalekites, he was rejected as king Hires David, son of Jesse to play music to help deal with his disappointment Becomes jealous of David Conflicting stories of his death in 1 Samuel and 2 Samuel

David The 2 nd king of Israel Son of Jesse (of Bethlehem) –Fulfills the future prophecy of Savior will come the “house of David” Worked as an amour- bearer and musician of King Saul Defeated Goliath, and his fame grew throughout the kingdom

David After the death of Saul and his sons, David was proclaimed king of Israel Davidic Covenant: Davidic Covenant: –Nathan (the prophet) told David that God had made a covenant, promising to establish the house of David: "Your throne shall be established forever." David betrayed his loyal officer, Uriah Death of his first born son Repented and Ruled in peace for 40 years; Succeeded by Solomon
