5. 1. ENERGY & EMPHASIS Emphasis the force you put on certain words or ideas in order to make them stand out. Energy is essential for involving your audience. Volume is key!

6. 2. PITCH INFLECTION Monotony is death! Changing your pitch adds “color” and excitement. It keeps your audience engaged. Teacher from Charlie Brown = not what you want!

7. 3. RHYTHM & PACE Like emphasis and pitch, rhythm should be varied Talking too fast confuses your audience Talking too slow puts your audience to sleep Don’t make this sound fake though; it should seem totally natural

8. 4. PAUSES & SILENCE Most neglected technique Pauses can make impact, create suspense and anticipation, create a bridge between ideas Silence can give your audience a chance to absorb what you just said. Beware of the Awkward Silence!!
