1 KICK OFF NOVEMBER 20, 2013  During the enclosure movement, many farmers lost their jobs.  In factories, many workers were hurt or killed because of poor working conditions.  Whose responsibility is it to take care of the people?

2 FACTORIES AND MASS PRODUCTION  Mass Production: system of manufacturing large numbers of identical items  Interchangeable parts made production and repair more efficient  Led to dramatic increase in production, very repetitious jobs for employees

3 CHANGING IDEOLOGIES  1700s, government shouldn’t interfere with business = laissez-faire  Adam Smith -advocate of laissez-faire = capitalism  Robert Owen – socialism – society/government owns all property  Karl Marx- communism (government owns means of production and controls economic planning)

4 PARTNER ACTIVITY  With your buddy, research your historical figure.  Create a poster describing your figure, and outlining the figure’s contributions to history.  You can use your smart phone to find out more information!  What impact has your figure had on today’s world?  You will present your posters in class today.

5 PRESENTATIONS  As the partners present, record notes on each of the historical figures.  You will be responsible for all historical figures.
