2 All children aged from 5 - 16 are taught the National Curriculum. The main aim of the National Curriculum is to 1. make sure all children have a broad and balanced education 2. to ensure that schools in all parts of the country are following the same courses. The National Curriculum specifies what children must study and what they are expected to know at different ages.

4 Compulsory testing at the ages of seven, (in English, mathematics) eleven (in English, Mathematics and science) fourteen(in English, Mathematics and science) Students can take the GCSE (General Certificate of Secondary Education) at the age of sixteen and vocational qualifications, A/S and A levels (Advanced levels), at seventeen and eighteen.
