1 The curriculum must include the sciences, languages and literacy, mathematics and numeracy, social studies, expressive arts, health and wellbeing, religious and moral education and technologies. All of these elements must be part of every learner’s broad general education from early years up to the end of S3, although there will be opportunities for some specialisation within areas to reflect the learner’s progress and interest. In the senior phase (S4 – S6), learners can reduce the curriculum areas covered, but they must have the sort of experiences that will further develop the four capacities. This is an entitlement for all learners at all stages of their education.

2 Literacy and Language English French Spanish Pupils to study English for four periods per week. In addition pupils will have three periods of core French and the opportunity to choose Spanish.

3 Maths and Numeracy Mathematics Pupils to study Maths for four periods per week

4 Sciences Biology Chemistry Physics Pupils choose two discrete Sciences to study for two periods per week each

5 Social Subjects History Geography Modern studies Business Pupils choose two from four subjects for two periods per week each

6 Religious and Moral Education Health and Wellbeing RE (2) PE (3) PSHE (1) Pupils to study RE (two periods per week), PE (three periods per week) & PSHE (one period per week)

7 Expressive Arts &Technologies Art (EA) Administration & IT (T) Computing & Information Science (T) Design & Manufacture (T) Graphic Communication (T) Health & Food Technology (T) Hospitality(T) Music (EA) PE Pupils choose four from nine subjects for two periods per week each. Art and Music can be chosen.

8 In order to ensure the most efficient use of staff, classes with low numbers of pupils may not be able to run. In such circumstances pupils will have to select an alternative subject. Please indicate below any problems e.g. Subject not available in a particular column, subjects clashing in a column, subjects not on the option sheet

9 Progression S4 – Seven subjects x four periods per week S5/6 – Five subjects x six periods per week
