4.  Typically done on-line  Some are quite long – make sure you have adequate time going in  Collect info before you start (employer contact info, dates worked, education info, reference contact info)  Fill in all blanks – do not write, “See Resume”  Most applications have short-answer questions or essays

5.  Can typically attach it electronically to application  1 page is best if possible, but not requirement provided all the info is relevant and organized  Keep it simple and concise, use bullet points, only include relevant information  Keep it professional, avoid personal info such as hobbies or interests – focus should be on teaching experience or experience with kids  Try to provide unique information

6.  Business letter format  Include with your resume  Allows you to get more personal – why are you interested in this school or district? what makes you a good fit?  Should be tailored to each district – do some research  Address it to a specific person

7.  Typically need 3-5 for most applications  Hard copy  Give the person writing the letter advance notice  Give careful thought to who you will ask  Principal is good – be sure to invite them to observe you first  Try to ask individuals who can attest to your ability as a teacher or working with kids  Be sure to thank them with a thank you note!

9.  Do some research on the school district  Have some questions ready to ask them  Practice standard questions before – the more prepared you feel, the more relaxed you’ll be  Dress professionally – business suits  Arrive early!  Strong handshake and eye contact  Be yourself and be honest  Thank you note!  Mock Interviews at UNO – October 12 and 26
