Do Now: Take out your play scripts (Blue Packets) Take out your journals LT: I can compare and contrast the film version of a text by writing a compare and contrast CER.
2
Today you will be working on a writing assessment: You will work to write a CER that compares and contrasts a scene in the play to the same scene in the movie. You will choose EITHER Act 1 Scene 1 or Act 1 Scene 2 You will get a chance to watch these scenes in the movie again before you begin writing. Use the rubric to guide your responses
3
Your CER should follow a similar outline to: I.Topic Sentence (Hook) II.Claim (thesis): Compare the film to the play across at least three different components (character, setting, film elements, theme, etc..) For Example: The film version of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” creates an updated version of the play through a change in setting, adding character backstories and taking out certain language. III.Evidence -Make sure to use specific evidence to support your ideas. I.Script citation Ex: (Act I Scene II). II.Movie citation Ex: (Hoffman) – This is the last name of the director IV.Reasoning to explain what effect the differences or similarities create V.Conclusion (Re-state’s claim)

You will now re-watch these two scenes in the movie to take notes and gather evidence Make sure you follow along with the script so you can see what changes are made. Your CER is due to Ms. Bluhm tomorrow at the start of class with the rubric attached. Does not need to be typed ***** This Power point is on the website in important documents tab – “Compare and Contrast CER” *****
