2 CTS We provide the enterprise technology infrastructure needs of UH and UHS CTS focuses on providing products and services that allow the University to best meet its goals of teaching, research, and service to its customers

3 Everyday... We strive to provide a suite of stable, effective products and services that meet the day-to-day operational needs of our customers “Through teamwork with IT colleagues, faculty, students and staff, we provide the technology infrastructure services to help achieve the mission of UH”

4 We meet our customers face-to-face to install voice, data and video services

5 We design and operate networks to serve UH and UHS

6 We monitor systems and networks 7x24 - 365

7 We design and provide high- performance computing and visualization environments for our research faculty

8 We maintain a sound financial and business position so that we can provide value added services

9 We deliver administrative and academic computing environments

10 Key 2003 Accomplishments n Fulfilled over 12,000 requests for service n Processed over 45,000,000 telephone calls. n Answered over 400,000 calls to the UH main switchboard n Transmitted over 19,000 hours of instructional video n Administered over 150 enterprise class servers n Processed over 120,000 high performance computing jobs. n Provided over 60,000 email accounts n Processed over 40,000,000 email messages. n Managed (and spent) over $12,000,000 on the technology infrastructure.

12 Key 2003 Accomplishments n Wireless networks n Storage Area Networks for Instructional Support Network, Administrative, High Performance n Collaborating in the creation of national and international supercomputing grids and state and national optical networks.

13 Where we’re going in 2004 n Enhance and maintain our technology infrastructure –Continue Network upgrade –Further Grid Research computing –Systems, including PeopleSoft –Continue wireless mobility –Implement Unified Messaging –Continue Network Convergence –Migrate to Exchange 2003

14 Where we’re going in 2004 n Hardening our Critical Infrastructure for security and reliability –moving more of underground facilities and equipment above ground –Reengineering UHS Data Center power and environmental systems –Implementing greater security tools for our networks and systems

15 Where we’re going in 2004 n Enhance our proactive business and technological excellence approach to n analyze operations for effectiveness and efficiencies serving customers n focus on end-to-end performance management n enhance our processes to better serve our customers n developing our resources
