2 VITAMINS Substances that your body needs to function 2 types water soluble vitamins -B1, B2, B6, B12, vitamin C, niacin, folic acid, biotin, and pantothenic acid. Fat soluble vitamins: Vitamins A, D, E and K Leafy vegetables Whole grains Fish and seafood Meats and eggs Milk and yogurt Every body parts depends on vitamins

3 Carbohydrates Your body turns carbohydrates into glucose Most important energy source in body 2 types Complex(starches) Contain more vitamins Absorb slowly into blood stream Simple (sugars) Absorb quickly into blood stream Foods rich in carbs whole grains, vegetables, fruits and beans

4 Protein Builds/repairs up tissue in your body Immune system, Muscles, organs are mainly protein 3 Types Whey protein Casein protein Egg protein Foods rich in protein beef poultry fish eggs dairy products nuts seeds legumes black beans Lentils

5 Fats needed for brain and nervous system develop power the body and absorb some vitamins Can be saved for later energy use Used to build cell membranes Used to insolate the body Types Saturated (bad) Meats cheese Trans (bad) Fried food Unsaturated (good) Nuts

7 Minerals Make your body function properly Non-organic substances from soil and water Strengthens bones Types Calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, zinc, sodium, potassium and selenium Sources: dairy, green leafy veggies, nuts, soy beans and cocoa, salt, milk, whole grains, bananas, legumes and red meat
