2 Let’s look around ! Kanchanaburi is Thailand´s third largest of 76 provinces. It is located 130 km west of Bangkok and covers an area of 19,480 km². Kanchanaburi has a population of 54,000 and was originally established by King Rama I.

3 Let’s go to Si Sawat district. About 130 km north of Kanchanaburi is Si Sawat district. It is located at Highway 3199 and has many natural attractions. It is well known for its beautiful waterfalls, national parks and the dam. Traveling to some attractions here is sometimes more difficult as elsewhere. Some attractions can only be visited by boat or 4-wheel- drive in the dry season.

4 General information T T he Erawan National Park was designated in June 1975 as Thailand's 12 th national park. It covers an area of 550 km² of high mountains and valleys. The eastern mountains rise to nearly 1,000 m. with shear limestone cliffs.

5 General information These mountains protect the area from the eastern monsoon resulting in a low average rainfall. In summer the weather is sweltering, but it is cool between November and February. The main feature of the park is the stunning 7 tired Erawan Waterfall

6 General information The 7 levels of this stunning waterfall drops 1,500 meters down steep-sided cliffs. It is surrounded by beautiful forest with many types of trees and orchids. 7 th level of Erawan Waterfall

7 General information This fall resembles the head of the Erawan Elephant (the 3-headed elephant from Hindu Mythology) which gives the whole waterfall its name.

8 Tourist Attraction + The main attraction is the beautiful 7-tired Erawan Waterfall with its emerald green water and the beautiful falls. Also worth to see is the Pra That Cave with its strange shaped stalactites and stalagmites.

9 Geography The limestone hills of Erawan National Park rise 165 to 996 meters above sea level. Many important streams flow from these hills. On the eastern side of the park, Mong Lai stream and Omtala stream join together above Erawan waterfall. Sadae stream flows through the north side of the park to Sri- nakharindra dam

10 Geography Deciduous forest covers about 80 % of the park, dry evergreen and bamboo forest. Wildlife surveys of mammals, reptiles, birds and amphibians have been carried out. If you are lucky you may catch a glimpse of elephants, gibbons, Siamese hare, flying squirrels, eagles, white-eyes, king cobras or pythons. Fish, crabs and insect are abundant in many steams.

13 Near by the Erawan Waterfall is a … Sri Nakarin Dam The Sri Nakarin Dam is situated in Si Sawat district,Sai Yok district and Thong Pha Phum district of Kanchanaburi province. Beautiful natural features abound including waterfalls, hot springs, caves and an island studded reservoir. The park was designated in 1981, and has a total area of 1,532 km².

14 Near by the Erawan Waterfall is a … Sri Nakarin Dam The north side of the reservoir is an important fishing area for local people. Many people like to come to go downstream with the raft this area vigorously.

15 How to go ?  By Car  By CarThere are two entrances to the park. On the west, a road comes from Sai Yok National Park. On the south, highway 323 comes from Kanchanaburi. If you are coming from little Sai Yok waterfall, travel about 10 kilometers to the town of Ban Pong Pat and turn left into Highway 3199. The park entrance is about 30 kilometers from this intersection.

16 How to go ?  By Train  By Train Train from Bangkok Noi Station at 07.35 a.m. and 1.45 p.m. arrive Kanchanaburi station, River kwai bridge, Namtok station. There is oneday trip by train from Bangkok to Namtok station on Saterday-sunday. More information Tel. 0-3451-1285

17 How to go ?  By Bus From Bangkok, take the bus from the Southern bus terminal (Sai Tai Mai) to Kanchanaburi, then catch a bus to the park.
