Do Now Solve and graph the following inequalities: 1). 4R + 15 + 4 ≥ 39 2). 3(X + 3) + 5 ≤ 32 3). -18 > 2(X – 2) + 5X COMPLETE THE DO NOW SILENTLY, INDEPENDENTLY, & IMMEDIATELY DURING REVIEW I WILL ASK FOR VOLUNTEERS TO SOLVE THESE! EVERYONE ELSE PUT A CHECK NEXT TO A RIGHT ANSWER OR CORRECT IT!

Objective & EU OBJECTIVE: SWBAT define and calculate perimeter and area of triangles and parallelograms ESSENTIAL UNDERSTANDING: We are now entering Geometry: The study of shapes. Remember to visualize the shapes as you do the problems! Copy all items in red in your notes WHEN FINISHED SIT IN ACADEMIC POSTURE!

What is perimeter and area? Perimeter is the distance around a two-dimensional shape Area is the space inside the boundary of a two-dimensional shape Copy all items in red in your notes WHEN FINISHED SIT IN ACADEMIC POSTURE!

Thought Question Copy all items in red in your notes Think for 30 seconds and write for 30 seconds How would we find the area of the grey square below WITHOUT including the white area inside of it?

How do we calculate perimeter and area? Perimeter: Add up the sides Area: It depends on the shape. Quadrilaterals (four sided figures): Base x Height Triangles: (B x H) 2 (A quadrilateral is a shape with four sides. Quad = four, lateral = side.) Copy all items in red in your notes

How do we structure perimeter and area problems? We are mathematicians!!!! DURING REVIEW PUT A CHECK NEXT TO A RIGHT ANSWER OR CORRECT IT! 1). Draw the figure 2). Label the sides (including units!) 3). For Area, write the formula 4). Create your calculations.

Let’s do this together Find the Perimeter of these figures. 1). A square with sides of 6 feet. 2). A triangle with a base of 6 inches and sides of 8 inches. 3). A rectangle with sides of 2 meters and 12 meters. 4). A parallelogram with sides of 1 mile and 3 miles. Better to be slow and sure than fast and wrong!!!! DURING REVIEW PUT A CHECK NEXT TO A RIGHT ANSWER OR CORRECT IT!

Let’s do this together Find the Area of these Figures. 1). A square with sides of 6 feet. 2). A triangle with a base of 6 inches and a height of 7 inches. 3). A rectangle with sides of 2 meters and 12 meters. 4). A parallelogram with sides of 1 mile and 3 miles and a height of 2 miles. Work Silently & Independently; silent hands for questions/to volunteer DURING REVIEW PUT A CHECK NEXT TO A RIGHT ANSWER OR CORRECT IT!

Check for Understanding On my count of three we will answer as a group with our hands over our hearts. One finger for A, two for B, three for C, four for D. What is the area of the rectangle below: A). 28ydB). 22ydC). 16ydD). 28yd 2 Work Silently & Independently; silent hands for questions/to volunteer DURING REVIEW PUT A CHECK NEXT TO A RIGHT ANSWER OR CORRECT IT!
