Area and Perimeter By Christine Berg Edited by V T Hamilton
Perimeter The sum of the lengths of all sides of the figure
Area The number of square units inside a figure
Area Abbreviations: A = Area b = base h = height
Rectangle To find the area multiply the length of the base times the height
Rectangle A = bh
Parallelogram Draw a rectangle on graph paper. Cut off a triangle on one side and add it to the other. 1 23
Parallelogram The rectangle becomes a parallelogram so the formula is the same as for a rectangle
Triangle The area of a triangle is one half of the length of the base times the height
Triangle 4in Area of the square is 4 times 4 or 16 sq. in. Area of the triangle is one-half 16, or 8 sq.in. A = 1/2 bh A = 1/2 (4)(4) A = 8 sq. in.

Area of Rectangles, Squares, Parallelograms, Triangles, and Trapezoids.
Test Review Pay attention. What is the difference between area and perimeter? PERIMETER- – Distance AROUND the edge of a figure – Measures in regular.
Copyright©amberpasillas2010. Perimeter – (P) (P) The distance around a figure. 10 ft. 6 ft ft.
Area of shapes © T Madas.
Finding the Area of Polygons Vocabulary Perimeter – The sum of all sides of the shape. Area – The total occupied space of a shape in units squared.
Rectangle The area of a rectangle is by multiplying length and height. The perimeter of a rectangle is the distance around the outside of the rectangle.
= (2 in) · (2 in) = 4 in 2. P = a + b + c A = ½(8*8) A = 32 P = =20.

6-2 Warm Up Problem of the Day Lesson Presentation
The area of a rectangle equals its length times the width (base times the height). A = length x width = lw or A = base x height = bh Area of a Rectangle.
