What is the difference between area and perimeter? PERIMETER- – Distance AROUND the edge of a figure – Measures in regular units …. (in, ft, yds, m …) – To calculate ADD the sides together AREA- – Measurement INSIDE a figure – Measured in squared units …. (in², ft², yds²) – To calculate use specific formulas (MULTIPLY)
What is the equation to … Find the area of a rectangle or square? Area = Length x Width Find the area of a parallelogram? Area = Base x Height Find the area of a triangle? Area = length x width 2
Important Note about base and height: They will always be perpendicular to each other. Together they form a right angle.
Review Mrs. Jessop has two tables that are 6 feet long by 3 feet wide. She put them together to form a square. What is the perimeter? Write all the possible names for the quadrilateral. Then give the best name.
Review What is the area of a parallelogram that has a base of 40 inches and a height of 3 inches? If a triangle has a height of 4 inches and an area of 18 inches, what is the length of the base?
