4 What are the Labor Laws for teens?  14-15 year-olds can work 16 hours a week Up to 3 hours on a school day Up to 40 hours a week when school is not in session Some exceptions if you are in a work program  16-17 years and above can work 20 hours 40 hours during non-school weeks Some jobs are defined as hazardous like construction jobs; teens can’t do these SOURCE: U.S.Department of Labor, Teen Labor Laws

7  Washington State’s minimum wage is $9.34  14 and 15 year olds can be paid 85% of minimum wage or $7.81  If you are younger than 20 your employer may pay you as little as $4.25 for the first 90 days  If you change jobs, your new employer can pay you this youth minimum wage again for 90 days SOURCE: U.S.Department of Labor, Teen Labor Laws How much can teens make?

10 Which careers are growing right now?  Industries and occupations related to health care, personal care, social assistance, and construction  Jobs requiring training beyond a four-year college degree are growing the fastest  Jobs requiring only a high school diploma are growing at the slowest rates

14 How do I choose an occupation?  It is important to start thinking about what you would like to do as a career  A plan will help you take classes in high school and college that give you skills you need  When thinking about a career, you should consider balancing your interests and the lifestyle choices you will make  Lifestyle choices include how much money you want to make and how much leisure time you’d like to have
