4 Supplies & Instruments Bring band supplies TOMORROW Put all band related items in your band locker

5 Lockers ALL band items must be stored in your band lockers ONLY Band items should be kept in your band lockers Keep lockers clean at all times- We will check! Locks should remain locked when not in class Locker number and combo is located on your student info in Charms

6 Band Hall Hours Band Hall Opens: 7:45 a.m. Band Hall Closes: 4:30 p.m. Except for Fridays…we leave early on Fridays. *Faculty Meetings happen in the Band hall and will lead to closure- be prepared to go to your designated area till the band hall opens. NO LOITERING!*

7 Daily Procedures Drop off instruments in the band hall as early as 7:45 a.m.- You may not stay here unless practicing. Go through the school day and then come back to the band hall at the end of the day to take all band materials home. Students need daily practice outside of class time. Students with large instruments may practice before and after school Mon – Thurs.

8 Safety Drills Fire Drills when the fire alarm sounds you will leave everything careful at your seat. Without talking exit out the WEST door (left). Follow the leader single file to the bus loop, cross over to the grassy area in the middle Stand and wait quietly while we check roll and wait for instruction Tornado Drills When tornado alarm sounds move to the designated tornado safe area. Move against the walls as instructed and go to duck and cover position. Wait quietly till released from tornado safe area. Lockdown Drills When Lockdown Drill is announced remain quiet. Move where teacher indicates and remain silent until teacher or administrator releases us from lockdown.

9 Bands There is the Beginning Band and the Advanced Bands : Honor Band Symphonic Band Concert Band

10 Expectations We have one rule here: RESPECT Respect of yourself Respect of others Respect of your environment Respect can be defined as caring enough to think about others before yourself. Always demonstrate Respect and you will be doing the right thing.

11 B A N D B BE RESPECTFUL: Band Directors/Teachers/Adults, Peers, Yourself, and Property. A AWESOME ATTITUDES: You control your destiny. Make every second count. N NEVER UNDERESTIMATE YOUR ABILITIES: Perfect practice makes perfect! D DO YOUR BEST: Keep trying. If you fall get back up!

12 Consequences Failure to follow the school and band program rules may result in the following: Band detention- served in the band hall D-Hall/office referral Not allowed to participate in Band Celebration, Dave & Busters at the end of the year. In certain cases demotion to a lower band or subsequent removal from band

13 Practice Schedules All Students will practice each day outside of class. Practice time will be recorded in CHARMS. Students with school owned instruments may take their instrument home on a daily basis or practice in the band hall before or after school Mon. - Thurs. Students with personal instruments must take their instrument home to practice every day. They are not allowed to spend the night. Students will turn in a practice record that acknowledges that students practiced on a daily basis. Daily practice outside of class is essential!!!

14 Region Sectionals Honor Band students and other selected students from Symphonic and Concert band will be responsible for attending 1 sectional per week. This extra time will help students prepare for Region Band Auditions. Please visit our web site for more information on Region Band. Region Sectionals will begin at 7:30 or 7:45 a.m.

17 How to Do Practice Logs in Charms Refer to the hand out on how to use Charms for practice logs Remember ALL TIMES must be in by SUNDAY MIDNIGHT If you fail to enter by Sunday you must print a paper Practice Log and have it signed and turned in by TUESDAY You must include the following items: Warm Up, Technique, and Music in EACH entry on your Practice Log

18 Charms Practice Log Grading GRADING RUBRIC FOR PRACTICE RECORDS -20 if less than 5 days of practice -20 if you skip 2 (or more) days in a row -10 points for each practice item missing (warm up, technique, and music) Practice Log Entry will begin next week on Monday

19 Private Lessons What are lessons? Think of them like having a Personal Trainer on your instrument. You wanna be your best- you train with the best How much are lessons? Lessons range from $17 to $30 depending on the length of lesson and the level of teaching experience. Why take from a Jefferson Private Teacher? We selected these teachers because we think they do the best job. They work with us to help you become the best you can in band. Plus they will teach you here at school and count on your Practice Logs!!

20 Concert Attire Beginners All beginners will wear the band shirt and black slacks, black shoes, black sock. Shirts tucked in. We will have 2 concerts this year. One in Dec. and one in May. They will also have a solo performance that occurs during the school day in May.

21 Concert Attire Advanced Formal Uniforms for Advanced Students include: full tuxedo for boys and dresses for girls (when available) or black dress pants & vests for all students with white tuxedo shirt with black bow tie. Formal Uniform Fee is included in the band fee collected at the beginning of the year. This will cover the cost of cleaning & alterations, which NISD states must be done professionally. The replacement cost will be $100 so students are reminded to treat them with the utmost care. Girls need to wear SOLID BLACK dress shoes & black hosiery and boys need to wear SOLID BLACK dress shoes & socks (crew length or longer). All students need Black slacks (“Dockers” style...NO JEANS, used when wearing band t-shirt in place of formal uniform)

22 Band Council New this year is a group of students that have volunteered to be very involved with the workings of the Jefferson Band. These students have accepted the role of Leader at all times! These students will assist with organization, morale and spirit, and other aspects as the directors require. They can be your first person to speak to if you have a question, need help, or have an idea for the band.
