1 What kids have said about OSS Summer Camp: “Last summer, my sister and I went to OSS summer camp. I wanted to learn to play better violin and also I wanted to have some fun. There I made many new friends and we played lots of fun stuff. My favourite class was ensemble class because the music sounds so great when we play together.” -David, age 10 “I had so much fun at violin camp. I wish I could come back for two weeks next summer!” – Emilie, age 6 The summer camp was great. You can meet new people, learn new things, and enjoy many fun activities, such as swimming and group classes. You also get a chance to perform what you learned at the end of the week for the parents. 2 Enjoy five fun-filled days of music in the summer! Our Ottawa Suzuki Strings summer camp is open to any Suzuki student age 5 and up, who has finished learning Allegro in Book 1. Programs for beginner, intermediate and advanced students (up to age 17) Every day your child will share in 3 – 4 hours of music making with Ottawa Suzuki Strings faculty Beginner Program – Introduction to Strings Open to new students (not currently enrolled in a Suzuki program), ages 5 – 8 Intro to violin, viola, cello, or guitar Role in the Musical Students registering for viola or cello receive a discount. Beginner – Advanced Program for current Suzuki students Group classes Mini-lessons (in a master class setting) Ensembles Musicianship Suzuki Voice Program Daily choir for all campers Musical theatre production for singers. Chamber Music Program (Advanced) Open to students with Grade 9 RCM level or equivalent 2 hours of coaching per day with members of the National Arts Centre Orchestra 2 master classes Mentoring opportunities Additional activities/events during the week include: Non-music classes (e.g. drama, art, dance) Outdoor games and sports Trip to the pool (City of Ottawa pool with lifeguard supervision) End-of-week performance open to parents and friends The camp will be held at Rideau Park United Church located at 2203 Alta Vista Drive (about a 5 minute drive from Bank and Riverside Dr. in the Alta Vista residential area). The camp will run daily from 9 am – 4 pm (5 pm on Friday). Pre- and post-camp care will be available for a small fee. Every effort will be made to organize carpools for families coming from the west end. Sample Daily Schededule* 9:00 – 9:30warm-up activities 9:30 – 10:30music ensemble** 10:30 – 10:45break – snack 10:45 – 11:45mini-lesson in group of 3 – 4 students 11:45 – 12:45lunch 1:30 – 2:15music ensemble** 2:15 – 3:00group class 3:00 – 4:00outdoor games/activities *Individual schedules may vary. **In place of ensemble, the youngest students will participate in additional group classes and choral musicianship classes.
