Leadership Triad The Leadership Triad connects Strategic Planning and Customer Focus with Leadership. Each of the criteria have a different focus but need to work together. Leadership Focus How do Senior Leaders lead? How does your organization examine accountability and fulfill societal responsibilities? Strategic Planning How do you develop your strategy? How do you implement your strategy? Customer Focus How do you obtain input from your identified customers? How do you serve customers’ needs to engage them and build relationships? 4

Session One Are we developing the right plan? There is an Organizational Profile in place and it is the foundation of the Strategic Plan. There is a clear process for strategic planning with documented key steps for developing a strategic plan. The strategic plan aligns and ensures the organizational mission and vision will be accomplished.. 5

Examination of Current Plan 6 In groups of three (trios), examine your current strategic planning documents. Discuss the following: What aspects of the documents do you consider positive to the organization? What part of the of the strategic planning documents do you think most inspire the staff to improve? How does your strategic plan impact all of the important aspects of the organization? How do these strategic planning documents relate to your personal “why” from your earlier discussion?

Strategic Planning Information 7 There are two questions to consider in planning strategically: How are you strategically planning? How are you implementing your strategic plan? This session focuses on How your organization is strategically planning? Effective strategic planning is an on-going process with progress measures to indicate when a goal is met and a new need can be addressed. There should be a documented process for strategic planning that is used for the district, schools, and departments. The Leadership System develops a strategic plan based on the Organizational Profile. A misconception about effective strategic planning is process that ends at four to seven year cycle. Effective school strategic planning is seamless year to year with measuring, analyzing results from strategic strategies and adjusting by deleting, changing, and adding new strategies based on needed during the year.

Session Two Did we get the plan off the ground? There is an action plan to deploy the strategic plan which includes communication, monitoring and adjustments activities. Data is collected and analyzed related to the strategic challenges and strategic advantages.. The Strategic Plan addresses strategic challenges with improvement goals.. 8

Short Cycle Improvement Tool 9 What are we trying to accomplish? How will we know the change is an improvement? What changes can we make that will result in improvement? PLANDO STUDYACT

Pair with your 8:00 o’clock appointment and complete the Deployment Checklist. As much as possible, come to agreement, but if that is not possible, circle those statements you are unable to agree on in the Deployment Checklist. Find one other pair to compare your completed checklists and find your differences. Discuss why you see this differently. Determine what are the implications of agreeing and disagreeing on the deployment of your strategic plan. 10 Deployment Checklist

Session Three Studying the Competition Data is collected and analyzed related to the strategic challenges and strategic advantages. There are external benchmarks in every area identified to help with raising the projected targets. 11

Session Four Making The Adjustment There are clear concrete measures for each of the strategic objectives with short and long term cycles There is an action plan to deploy the strategic plan which includes communication, monitoring and adjustments activities. 13
