April 8 In at least 3 complete sentences, describe 3 facts about William Shakespeare and/or the Globe Theater.

April 9 How many syllables are in a line of poetry that has an iambic pentameter meter? Write the pattern of stresses for iambic pentameter.

April 10 Why do you think Shakespeare used iambic pentameter in his works? Think of TWO possible reasons in TWO complete sentences.

April 14 After reading Act I, scene i, we know that Romeo is in love with someone other than Juliet. Make TWO different predictions as to how Romeo might meet Juliet.

April 15 If you were Romeo and the person you really liked did not want to be with you, what would you do?

April 16 SUMMARIZE the events of Act I so far. Write ONE sentence for each scene that we have read (scenes i-iv).

April 21 Recall the FIVE methods of indirect characterization we discussed while reading the Odyssey. List all five.

April 22 Determine whether the following are blank verse, prose, or neither and explain why. A. Tis well. I’ll have thee speak out the rest of this soon. Good my lord, will you see the Players well bestowed? Do you hear? B. The Prince of Cumberland! That is a step On which I must fall down, or else o’erlep, For in my way it lies. Stars, hide your fires; Let not light see my black and deep desires! C. You stars that reign’d at my nativity, Whose influence hath allowed death and hell, Now draw up Faustus like a foggy mist Into entrails of yon labouring clouds, So that my soul may but ascend to above

April 23 Predict TWO complications that may arise from Romeo and Juliet’s decision to get married.

April 24 Recall the distinction Shakespeare uses with prose and blank verse to distinguish between social classes. Then, think about what other ways he shows class distinction.

April 27 Summarize the events of Act II. Write one sentence for each of the 6 scenes.

April 28 Who is your favorite character in the play so far and why?

April 29 If you have a Facebook page, explain why you have one (what kinds of things do you use it for?) If you do NOT have a Facebook page, explain why you have decided not to have one.

May 4 Romeo and Juliet is a tragedy. Nothing really tragic has happened in the play yet. Predict 3 tragic events that may occur.

May 6 What is the difference between a soliloquy and a monologue? What is the difference between a monologue and an aside?
