8. Look through book before reading and suggest ideas and words that may be found in the book. When an unknown word is encountered, immediately blend first few letter-sounds together. Say the word that makes sense and read on if it looks OK. Re-read the sentence if still uncertain. Joint together ‘chunks’ of words, eg: to- day, go-ing. back-yard

9. We are also looking at – Differences between fiction and non-fiction. How a story makes us feel. Different illustrators and authors. Can we may relate to a particular character or story? We emphasise the importance of re-reading a familiar book in order to read with appropriate phrasing, fluency and intonation.

Kinds of writing: recounting events, letters, lists, writing procedures or instructions and imaginary stories. Write for different purposes and audiences. Combine writing with drawings to support meaning. Editing Rereading own writing to check for sequential ideas. Correct spelling of high frequency words. Important things you can do at home.  Talk to each other about all kinds of things as often as possible, correcting speech if needed.  Everyone read and talk about the books you have read.  Write shopping lists, cards, letters, stories or journals.  Games –Word rhyming competitions. 14. Level 1 AusVELS Content Strands Number and Algebra Measurement and Geometry Statistics and Probability The content of Level 1 Maths is now taught over one year. There are four proficiency strands: Understanding, Fluency, Problem Solving and Reasoning. These strands reinforce working mathematically across all three content strands.

18. Important things you can do at home. Ask everyday problems – If everyone is having two sausages for tea how many will we need to put on the barbeque? Cooking. Measuring. Counting money in a money box. Group in dollar amounts. Shopping. Help them become aware of time in their daily routine and reading both analogue and digital clocks.
