2 Wednesday, October 3, 2012 I will – review with you Raymond’s Run We will – Discuss/summarize as a class Raymond’s Run and re-read key passages. You will Browse the reading for relevant/key points to add to a summary. Download the Character’s Chart from Netschool or Website Complete the Character’s Chart with Evidence form the Text

3 Summary If you began reading the story (pages 38 – 46) think about you read by browsing each page. This strategy will jog your memory about where key or relevant events of the story are located. Elements of an Effective Summary Short Condensed Compact Succinct

4 Character’s Chart Helps the reader understand the relationships between the characters. It is completed by using EVIDENCE from the text. Becomes a crucial understanding tool when reading longer works in H.S. and College! What’s in it for ME? Future READY!

5 Character’s Chart In my Netschool/Website, I have uploaded the Character’s Chart. You need to access Netschool/Website, locate the chart, right click on it - “save as.” In the document name space, write your last name – Character Chart. Save it to your class folder. Open the chart. On the top, it should display your name – Character Chart. If you are not able to download it, let me or Ms. V. know and we will upload it to your computer from my flash drive.

6 Screen Shots These screen shots should help you in downloading and naming the document. Locate the chart, click on it and “save as.”

7 In this window, write your last name – Character Chart. Save it to your class folder. Open the chart. On the top, it should say your name – Character Chart.

8 Complete Character Chart Click here to add you Name and Last Name Add details for each charact er (add page #) Note – This table works to the side and down. Each character relates to each other in a specific way. Give it a try!

9 Next Steps… Tomorrow we will complete the chart and type a few text boxes that we will use for our plot analysis. We will review the plot template and the short assessment you will take as homework tomorrow – BUT IS NOT DUE UNTIL MONDAY! Friday is a half day, and life will be complicated. We will cover your homework for the weekend. I will scan the story and make it available for you to use during the weekend.

10 Closing Reflect: Squeaky says that anything anyone has to say to her brother they have to tell her? What type of relationship does Squeaky have with Raymond? What does that tell you about Squeaky’s personality? About her family values? Have you ever been in a similar situation? What as your reaction?
