2 Reduce your food Only ask for the amount of food you think you can eat so that food doesn't go to waste. When food waste rots in landfill it is in an oxygen-free environment. This creates methane – a gas over 20 times more powerful than carbon dioxide. These gases are significant causes of climate change. Recycling food waste prevents these gases from being released into our atmosphere.

3 Recycle your packaging Some plastic films can now also be recycled at supermarket carrier bag recycling points. Look out for the message ‘Recycle with carrier bags at larger stores – not at kerbside’. The following can be included: Plastic carrier bags Plastic bread bags Plastic bags from breakfast cereals Plastic wrappers from multipacks of cans and plastic bottles Plastic wrappers from toilet roll and kitchen towel Plastic freezer bags Plastic magazine (home delivery) and newspaper wrap

4 Recycle your electronics WHAT YOU DO WITH THE ELECTRONICS YOU NO LONGER WANT OR USE, OR THOSE THAT NO LONGER WORK AND HANGING OUT IN THE DIGITAL GRAVEYARDS OF OUR BASEMENTS AND DRAWERS. YOU HAVE A CHOICE WHAT TO DO WITH THEM: SELL, DONATE, OR RECYCLE FOR REUSE OR “MINING” FOR COMPONENT MATERIALS.

5 Recycle your clothes The clothing in our wardrobes is worth over £4,000 - yet 30% of it is unused. From buying clothes that are designed to last longer, to buying second-hand clothes, to looking for new ways to wear existing clothing - there are lots of things we can do to make the most of our clothes
