3 How did Earth Day get started? In 1970 John McConnell from the United States started Earth Day. It is celebrated all over the world and is generally celebrated on April 22 nd. Earth Day is a very special day for all of us to think about earth issues.

4 Did you know Earth Day has a flag ? According to legend this symbol was created as a combination of the letters e and o from the words environment and organism. This flag was also based on the Stars and Stripes of the US Flag. Green was substituted in place of blue and red.

5 What Can You Do to Help Our Planet?

6 123 Buy Products that are not wasteful in their packaging. Use reusable grocery bags, water bottles, sports drinks. Buy Products in bulk. Only buy items you really need.

7 You can reuse things instead of throwing them away. Washable cups. Plastic forks, spoons, knives Donate items so other people can reuse them.

9 Recycling or making new things from recycled ones costs less and saves a lot of the Earth’s natural resources, which helps our environment. Recycling also helps saves space in landfills. The energy that is saved by recycling also results in less pollution.

12 Glass never wears out. It can be recycled forever. Americans use 4 million Plastic bottles of every hour! Recycling one glass bottle saves enough Electricity to light a 100-watt bulb for four hours
