5 2015 RISING 9 TH GRADE COURSE SELECTION TIMELINE  Feb. 3 -Meet with 8th grade students to discuss the course selection process.  Feb. 9-12School counselors will meet with students to input electronic course selection.  April 10 -Verification letters distributed to students  April 24-Verification letters returned to Penndale ONLY IF changes/corrections need to be made  June 12 -Deadline for schedule changes.

Students will be scheduled into remediation classes until proficiency requirement is met

11 Grade Point Average (GPA) p. 8 GPA for graduation is cumulative for grades 9, 10, 11, & 12. Calculated using the 5 major courses that would yield the highest GPA. Some courses are ineligible for exclusion from GPA calculation (IFE). Class rank will be calculated at the end of the 9 th grade year. Calculation formula

12 Credits: Promotion Requirements p. 11 PROMOTION REQUIREMENTS FOR PROMOTION TOREQUIRED CRITERIA GRADE 9 Students must pass English, Social Studies, Math, & Science. GRADE 104 CREDITS GRADE 1111 CREDITS GRADE 1216.5 CREDITS Students have the potential of earning up to 6.9 credits in their 9 th grade year. At NPHS, students have the potential to earn a up to 6.9 credits per year.

19 Science of Flight 3915 Level: 5.0 Grades: 9 - 12 Periods/Cycle: 6 1 st year students do not have to wear the Air Force Uniform! Prerequisites: None Can earn college credits through Adam State University for taking this course. Course Description: – Students will learn how airplanes fly, human physiology of flight, and the effects of weather on aircraft. – Students will have the opportunity to use the flight simulator and build model aircraft. – There are numerous field trips available throughout the year.

20 Frontiers of Aviation 3905 Level: 5.0 Grades: 10 - 12 Periods/Cycle: 6 1 st year students do not have to wear the Air Force Uniform! Prerequisites: None Can earn college credits through Adam State University for taking this course. Course Description: – Students will learn how flight has evolved through science. – Students will have the opportunity to use computer models and simulators. – There are numerous field trips available throughout the year.

21 June 22-26: Open to all 8 th -12 th grades – Leadership Exercises and Challenges – McGuire Air Force Base Trip (Aircraft, Battlefield Simulators) – Interactive games at Laser Quest and Guppy Gulch Water Park – Obstacle Courses with the Pennsylvania National Guard at their Training Complex More details, to include sign-ups in March through North Penn Community Ed Summer Leadership Academy
