3 T. Bey © 1995-2008 PREVENTION & EARLY INTERVENTION London W10 P2P is based in the Golborne ward – one of the most multi- cultural (21.27% Muslim) and deprived areas in the country. In the index of multiple deprivation 2004 the area: Golbonre Ward ranked at 3,571 out of 32,482 1 is most deprived LSOA and 32,482 the least deprived (Source: Local Layer Super Output Areas (LSOAs) in England) The area is one of two ‘hotspot’ areas with the highest level of youth crime in the borough. (‘Figure it Out’ 2004 Kensington & Chelsea’s audit of crime and disorder.)

Article 12: Whenever adults make a decision that will affect you in any way, you have the right to give your opinion, and the adult have to take that seriously. Article 19: No one should hurt you in any way. Article 27: You have a right to a good enough “Standard of Living”. Article 31: You have the right to play. Article 33: You have the right to be protected for illegal drugs and from the business of making and selling drugs.

Bey © 1995-2008 How dose P2P Work The project imparts coping and transitional skills, which have proved to be highly successful Internationally, opening up the possibilities of individual lives and introducing self-determination techniques by: restoring individual responsibility, motivating young people with goals, showing young people how to achieve success, facilitating employment readiness and explore financial stability PREVENTION & EARLY INTERVENTION

11 T. Bey © 1995-2008 PREVENTION & EARLY INTERVENTION Opening the Door Drop-In 1 – 2 days a week we provide meeting spaces spaces for young people to meet with each other or their peers to socialise. During this time we also offer advice, information and workshops.

Bey © 1995-2008 PREVENTION & EARLY INTERVENTION P2P Mentoring We offer young people the chance to develop a relationship with an adult other than their parents and teachers, who become friends, role models and support the young person. It takes place outside institutional settings e.g. schools. It can take various forms, including: 1. tutoring 2. personal goal attainment 3. career exploration 4. life management skills development 5. entertainment or cultural activities
