5 Research Chemicals

6 Research Chemicals The U.S. currently has no legislation which explicitly identifies individual research chemicals as scheduled However the term ‘Research Chemical’ was specifically applied in an attempt to avoid prosecution under the Federal Analog Act…

7 Research Chemicals Since a majority of research chemicals bear some functional and structural similarity to a scheduled chemical, they could theoretically be considered to be scheduled provided that intent for human consumption can be demonstrated. Precedent has already been set that vendors of research chemicals may be contravening this law

8 Synthetic Drugs Welcome to Kimschemicals.com!
We produce first grade chemicals to serve your every need. This ranges from personal use to industrial use Send us a text message with your order…

10 Synthetic Drugs

11 Synthetic Drugs (Research Chemicals)

12 Synthetic Drugs The past 2 years have been characterized by increasing diversity of products, as manufacturers of new psychoactive substances adapt products almost endlessly "The variety, the changing physical forms & the constant modifications in labeling make it difficult for law enforcement … to identify new psychoactive substances."

13 25-I (Toledo, OH) University of Toledo Dec 19th, 2012 9:00pm
Winter Break Josiah Galat, 20, of Mansfield Classmate Erik Littleton, 19, of Detroit Alexander Vogel, 18, of Toledo

14 25-I (Toledo, OH) “Galat & Littleton had reason to be there. They were staying there, they had IDs, and had checked in, and had a dispute,” said Larry Burns, VP for external affairs The two men, who elected to stay on campus during winter break, had been roommates at the residence hall since Saturday Littleton signed in Vogel in the AM

15 25-I (Toledo, OH) At 9:02 p.m., a 911 call was made by a person who had no part in the incident and reported a “person down,” reports indicate Police arrived at the hall at 9:06 p.m., and found Littleton four minutes later in a “bloody state” outside the building, Chief Newton said

16 25-I (Toledo, OH) Fight broke out in a second-floor stairwell
Galat was stabbed on the left & right sides of his neck, died outside dorm Galat had defense wounds on his body Galat’s roommate, Littleton, suffered several stab wounds, unable to speak  The only knife used in the stabbing listed as a “hunting knife”

17 25-I (Toledo, OH) Vogel was found naked and agitated in the hallway. He was taken to a hospital, then arrested on a disorderly conduct charge Summons said he was "screaming and yelling things" about being in pain and causing himself physical harm He was not responsive to officers' questions about what was wrong or whether he could put clothes on

18 25-I (Toledo, OH) toxicology report showed Galat had 25i, similar to LSD, in his system Unknown if Vogel or Littleton were under the influence of 25i during the incident no other reports of 25i use on campus, & appears to be fairly new Not yet regulated, 25i linked in other states to a handful of overdose deaths Littleton has not been charged

19 25-I (Houston, TX) It started with hallucinations and quickly turned violent. Kevin Schoolmeyer was driving home from a party in June when the 21-year-old started to hit his friend sitting in the passenger seat. Suddenly, his limbs began to flail around, he punched the console and started ripping accessories from the vehicle's interior, shortly after that, he died.

20 25-I (Houston, TX) Schoolmeyer's was the first case. The following month a 15-year-old Houston girl also returning home from a party with a friend said she felt sick before her arms and legs began thrashing around. About 30 minutes later, she was dead.

21 25-I (Houston, TX) Authorities believe what killed these two young people is the newest designer drug hitting Houston's streets: 25i. The blandly named drug is a synthetic chemical substance that acts as psychedelic hallucinogenic, similar to LSD and ecstasy

22 25-I (New Orleans, LA) after a night drinking vodka-Red Bulls at a 2012 Voodoo Festival in City Park A stranger, wanting to repay 21-year-old Clayton Otwell for helping find his cell phone, offered Otwell a free dose of 25-i, a new synthetic hallucinogenic drug The stranger plopped a single drop from a vial into Otwell's nose

23 25-I (New Orleans, LA) Otwell immediately started babbling incoherently within 30 minutes, he had a seizure and never regained consciousness Taken to Tulane University Hospital, he was placed on life support Saturday night; he died Tuesday

24 2C-i (Smiles) 2C family of drugs, a group of closely related molecules, psychedelic effects. discovered by chemist and synthetic-drug guru Alexander Shulgin, who published the formulas of psychoactive drugs in his book "PiHKAL: A Chemical Love Story." As of July 2012, the DEA classifies 2C-I as a Schedule I controlled substance

25 2C-i (Smiles) Usually sold in powder form
can also be taken as a tablet Users often mix the powder form with a stabilizing substance, such as chocolate or candy, before ingesting effects include auditory and visual hallucinations, along with feelings of giddiness, relaxation and empathy.

26 2C-i (Smiles) a short-acting synthetic psychedelic. It gained some popularity in Europe and the U.S. between 2001 and 2005. Apr 24, confusion exists between 2C-I and 2C-I-NBOMe (also called 25I-NBOMe) which are different drugs. 25I-NBOMe is a newer, and more potent chemical which has led to several deaths when snorted.

27 2C-i (Smiles) increase heart rate
can cause the heart to beat out of rhythm can be fatal.  nausea and vomiting some users experience "bad trips," which can include terrifying hallucinations and feelings of fear and panic

28 2C-i (Smiles) Witnesses described the 17-year-old boy as "shaking, growling, foaming at the mouth." Soon after, he "started to smash his head against the ground" and began acting "possessed," according to a witness. Two hours later, he had stopped breathing shine.yahoo.com/healthy-living/2c-smiles-killer-drug-every-parent-know html

46 Rx Problem

47 Rx Problem Easier to obtain Cheaper “Think” less risk for O.D.
In 2010, nearly 60 percent of the drug overdose deaths (22,134) involved pharmaceutical drugs. Opioid analgesics (oxycodone, hydrocodone, and methadone), were involved in about 3 of every 4 pharmaceutical OD’s, confirming the predominant role opioid analgesics play in drug overdose deaths. (CDC.gov)

48 Rx Abuse In 2012, the Monitoring the Future study reported that 14.8% of high school seniors used a Rx not prescribed for them or for nonmedical reasons in the past year. after marijuana, Rx and over-the-counter medications account for most of the top drugs abused by 12th graders in the past year (Adderall and Vicodin most popular) teens.drugabuse.gov/our-projects/peerx

Ive never done heroin but the liquid smells like vinegar. is that a good or bad sign?” A: “if it has a reddish dark brown color it is black tar diluted tincture you can pour it in a pan to dry if you want to smoke even. Black tar taste like a vinegary BBQ sauce but very bitter but addicts love that taste”

74 Heroin (Nasal Spray) “get a syringe, remove the needle from it, and use that to spray it up into your nasal cavity slowly. The goal is to let it absorb in your nasal cavity, not in your stomach after it drips down. This method of dosing has been termed "Shebanging" by local addicts.”

77 Meth Labs (One-Pot)

78 Meth Labs (One-Pot) Increase in “One-Pot” Meth Labs
All ingredients in plastic bottle car or a even restroom can create a liquid fire mansfieldnewsjournal.com, Written by Lou Whitmire

79 Meth Labs (One-Pot) including ammonia, ether, batteries that are torn or peeled to expose lithium, and products containing pseudoephedrine, such as sinus medication The strong smell of ammonia or cleaning products is a tip-off — any type of strong chemical smell

massive amounts of plastic soda bottles, duct tape, coffee filters and sandwich bags If coffee filters have red stains, should raise red flags. Landlords and neighbors can look for several unusual products in bulk, including drain cleaners, cold packs, paint thinner and propane.

82 Meth Labs (One-Pot) Unexplained tooth decay over a short period of time, especially in teenagers Red sores on the body irritable, confused, anxious, paranoid and aggressive appetite suppressant, users appear skinny or malnourished Sleep deprivation

83 Caffeine Drinks

84 Caffeine Drinks Researchers have discovered a link between abuse of highly caffeinated energy drinks & drug abuse that has some calling energy drinks a “gateway drug.” The popularity of caffeine-laced energy drinks has led to growing caffeine abuse among young people drug-info/researchers-calling-energy-drinks-a-gateway-drug

85 Caffeine Drinks Researchers at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore have found that young people who abuse energy drinks are more likely to abuse prescription drugs In a report just published in the journal Drug and Alcohol Dependence, they also expressed concern about the dangerous effects of mixing energy drinks with alcohol, a popular campus combination.

86 Caffeine Drinks Poison-control centers report an increase in calls concerning teen caffeine abuse over the past few years 20,000+ Emergency Room visits annually A 2007 study by Wake Forest University found that college students who drank energy drinks mixed with alcohol were twice as likely to be Injured ride with an intoxicated driver be taken / or take advantage of sexually

87 Caffeine Powder The white, soft, powdery substance is unregulated by the FDA and can be sprinkled on food or mixed into a liquid. Single teaspoon = approx. 25 cups of coffee. Teens = no more than 100 mg daily (100 grams of “pure powder” for under $12) Increased heart rate/Uneven heart rhythm Headaches / Dizziness / Nausea / Dehydration / Anxiety/ depression / Difficulty sleeping / Tremors and seizures

88 Caffeine Powder LAGRANGE, Ohio (CBS Cleveland) – A senior at Keystone High School was found dead after he ingested toxic amounts of caffeine powder. Stiner’s (18) death was a result of having toxic levels of caffeine in his blood after ingesting the powder.  The overdose caused cardiac arrhythmia and a seizure. About 1/16 of a teaspoon of the powder is equal to one can of any high-powered caffeine drink. cleveland.cbslocal.com/2014/06/30/high-school-senior-dies-after-ingesting-toxic-amount-of-caffeine-powder/

89 Alcohol

90 Alcohol Fast Food cup Beer Straw

91 Alcohol (Enemas) Tampons are soaked in alcohol & then inserted into one of two orifices Some girls have ended up in the hospital

92 Alcohol Youtube videos- alcohol and dry ice or Vodka and dry ice.
It is a new trend and way to get extremely ‘crunked’ (crazy + drunk) The dry ice vaporizes the alcohol and you inhale it association with Crunk Juice, a brand of strong alcoholic beverage associated with the music genre “Crunk” (Lil Jon, Hip Hop)

93 Gummy Bears Gummy bears soaked in alcohol

94 Gummy Bears “These things are strong. And the texture had dramatically changed. It no longer had the gummi chewiness—it was more like a very firm Jell-O, and you could almost slurp them. Yes, small, bear-shaped Jell-O shots. They weren't quite "done" after three days, though.”

95 Gummy Bears “the sugar in the gummis adds to the effect. It may also be because you're holding the booze in your mouth longer as you chew and explore the texture…They were bigger, jigglier, and a bit smoother going down…these don't taste like gummi bears that happen to have booze in them. No, they taste like vodka with gummi bear flavoring”. gizmodo.com/tag/happy-hour

96 Vodka Eyeballing It's the latest drinking fad on YouTube
could cause blindness originated in the U.K., teens pouring vodka directly into their eyes Some: more of a prank than a way to become more intoxicated, I dare you… Vodka is 40 to 50 percent alcohol and can burn and scar the cornea foxnews.com/story/2010/05/26/eyeballing-fad-has-teens-pouring-vodka-into-eyes

97 Vodka Eyeballing

98 Powdered Alcohol Palcohol (concept isn't new)
multiple patents filed on powdered alcohols over the years General Foods Corp. in the 1970s says it is made by “absorbing the ethanol onto some sort of carbohydrate powder” weighs about an ounce / fit into any pocket powder should not be snorted usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2014/04/21/newser powdered-alcohol/ /

99 Smoking Alcohol alcohol over dry ice in a thermos-type bottle, inhale it directly using a straw alcohol is poured into a bottle, then corked, the needle from a bicycle pump is poked through the top of the cork. Following this, air is pumped into the bottle in order to vaporize the alcohol, with the user then inhaling free-base the alcohol over a flame

100 Smoking Alcohol “drunkorexia’” some teens particularly vulnerable, limit their calories rapid alcohol intoxication not metabolized by the liver, higher strength & more potent effect as it enters the bloodstream going directly to the brain much higher risk of an alcohol overdose No way to vomit out the excess…

101 Smoking Alcohol no effective way to measure how much alcohol you are consuming…drinker can’t discern if they are inhaling the entire cup or a few sips, as residual alcohol remains in the bottle, often obscured by lingering vapors

102 Smoking Alcohol addictive potential of vaporizing alcohol. The rapid & intense effect of vaporizing alcohol–similar to the “quick hit” of cocaine, cigarettes, & meth has tremendous potential to reinforce the addictive effects…greater abuse potential

103 Smoking Alcohol New products to vaporize the alcohol, such as the “Vaportini” have emerged on the scene in the past 5 years. The product, created in 2009, is sold legally in the US. The manufacturer explains that the Vaportini involves “no calories, no carbs, no impurities and the effects of consuming alcohol are immediately felt, making it easier to responsibly imbibe.”

104 Smoking Alcohol lead to bronchospasm
drying effect respiratory tract passages and nasal lining predispose individuals to a higher risk of lung infections such as pneumonia, or pneumonitis imagine just pouring a bottle of alcohol into your lungs lead to a “burn” of the lining of the lung

105 Vaporizor USB charges it Vaporize Liquid Marijuana As low as $19

106 Smoking Pills Pills contain Fillers
Binding, Filling, Flow Agents (like plastics) other Excipients (inactive substance formulated with the active ingredients) “There are some excipients that are perfectly safe to swallow because they aren't digested, but those same excipients are toxic and can kill you when you breathe it in a vaporous form” … Product Specialist for a vitamin company

107 Smoking Pills Oxy addicts smoke the pills by heating them on a piece of tin foil. The burning pills leave long, black streaks down the foil. “They always keep the foil, always. If they can’t get any Oxy and they get desperate, they go back and re-smoke those lines for quick fix.” Detective Dave Ross sdentertainer.com/news/oxycontin-epidemic-plagues-north-county-youth

108 E-Cigs in School

109

110 E-Cigs in School Electronic Cigarettes:
No law restricting use/possession by youth (yet) Senator Sherrod Brown (and others) sent a letter to the FDA April 16, 2013 requesting them to "deem regulations to assert regulatory authority restricting the sale, distribution and marketing of e-cigarettes and other nicotine products to children and young adults." currently marketed as a smoking cessation aide (with flavors which seem to be more appealing to youth) do not contain tobacco are still addicting due to the nicotine component

111 E-Cigs in School Electronic Cigarettes:
make sure school policy specifically states "a ban on the use of e-cigarettes or products which contain nicotine“ E-cigarettes contain liquid nicotine which is vaporized. Some may contain 18mg. of nicotine per 1 ml bottle of e-juice. As a comparison, a traditional tobacco cigarette contains approximately 12mg of nicotine. A lethal dose of nicotine to a small child can be as little as 10mg where for an adult will normally be between 30 and 60mg.

112 Hookah (Pen or Stick) Hookah tobacco is often flavored
molasses, fruit pulp or honey additional flavors: coconut, fruit flavors, mint or coffee. Sweetens the taste and aroma similiar to the e-cigarette contains nicotine Mini marts and gas stations nrfocus.org/latest_topics/hookah-penssticks-not-for-kids/

113 Hookah (Pen or Stick) look like nondescript writing pens or asthma inhalers, lip-gloss, bullet-like cylinders hanging on fat gold neck chains Portable pot vaporizers — called "vapes" or "pocket hookahs" by users — are going hand-in-hand with the proliferation of electronic cigarettes and taking the marijuana world by storm (vapor pens) denverpost.com/news/ci_ /pocket-hookahs-proliferate-young-marijuana-users-sources-say
