Johnson and Linda Michelin Amy’s Light by Robert Nutt Supplies for Firefly Picture: Pipecleaners Construction paper Tacky glue Q-tips Ink pad Wet wipes Glue trays Procedures: Remind the children that we’ve been talking about big dreams. Explain to the children that the books that we will be reading today are all about the night time. Ask the children the following question: What happens during the night time? Blackout Introduce the book to the children by reading the title and showing the children the illustration on the cover of the book. Ask the children the following questions: What is the Caldecott Medal? Who receives the Caldecott Medal? * The Caldecott Medal is awarded annually to the artist (illustrator) of the most distinguished American picture book for children. Explain to the children that the book contains detailed pictures and little text. The pictures help to tell the story. Read the book to the children. While reading be sure to periodically stop and ask the children questions about the story.
