5 TOTD on the bellringer Pick of a copy of cooks illustrated 1. How does the knowledge that you have learned so far (knife skills, knife cuts, kitchen tools, conversions and measurements ) help you read this recipe? 2. What type of vocabulary words or terms do you still need to know?

6 Bell ringer: What is the difference between a liquid measuring cup and a dry measuring cup? Visually? What are they used for? How many are their? What standards measurements do they come in? *Turn in crossword if not submitted yesterday* Don’t flip over the white paper at your table

8 Split into groups of two or three at your table Do not flip over the white piece of paper until told When you flip it over write down as many kitchen vocab words as you can within a minute and 30 seconds When I call time drop your pens/pencils/ etc. Trade and grade with the other group at your table 1 st and 2 nd place (most correctly identified) will get bonus bucks

9 You are going to be the teachers during class today. Look in chapter 22 Each person will be researching and finding the answers for at least 4 vocabulary words and teaching them to your table. As a table you should learn all 19 I will give you about 10 minutes to find the definition and location of the kitchen item then about 10 minutes to teach and copy down the vocabulary terms from the rest of your group.

10 Scavenger Hunt There is a list in the bin, DO NOT FLIP OVER UNTIL TOLD The group that correctly finds all of the items will WALK the bin to me and write their kitchen number on the piece of paper on the washer That person will then pick up a 1 matching worksheet for each table member I will then go in order and call each kitchen up, if the first kitchen can’t randomly identify 5 items I select and the purpose, I will go to the next group on the list. When all groups are checked off I will ask you to put the items away in the correct drawer When finished with matching worksheet, submit to bin

11 Grouping tools by tasks Each kitchen tool has a purpose, some have many. The main categories are measuring, cutting, baking, stirring, and serving As a group I want you all to decided which category the kitchen tools that you were given fit into. Some tools can fit into multiple categories, please pick the one you think it fits best in

12 Grab a copy of a Cooks illustrated ON bell ringer 1. Write down recipe Write down each kitchen tool used and how it was used/purpose

13 TOTD-On bell ringer sheet What do you think the most useful kitchen tool is? Why?
