18 Sub-groups of Culture… Within any given culture, there are often sub-cultures within that larger culture. Examples:

19 Cultural Empowerment Assignment In a group of 3 or 4 people, you will select a cultural sub-group from the topics below and represent that sub-culture visually. Along with each visualization of the feature of culture for that sub-group (ie. language, food, recreation, etc.) you will include a written explanation to demonstrate an understanding of that culture as a sub-group. (One or two paragraphs should be sufficient!)  Culture of youth / teens  Culture of Canadians  Culture of Bedford South school  Culture of Aboriginals vs. early Europeans  Culture of Halifax  Culture of an organization (Scouts, Cadets, etc.)  Culture of… other? 19 Samples will be shown in class!

Just FYI… Since you are doing advertisements, check out the ad on page 188. 8. Read Closing the Door and make a summary statement about Canada’s immigration policies of the late 1800’s. 22
