PBIS Action Planning Supporting your teams in developing their PBIS Action Plans Developing an action plan to create goals for the year Teams using surveys and data to support the development of their PBIS Action Plan Team Implementation Checklist (TIC) Self Assessment Survey
Teaching/Learning Examples (TLE’s) TLE’s are a way to document and share your data TLE’s have several possible functions: –S–Strengthening skills of coach(es) –I–Increasing skills of team members and staff –M–Monitoring progress of interventions –I–Improving fluency in school improvement process –C–Creating visibility and sharing success stories
Why Document Success through Teaching/Learning Examples? Visibility Funding Share strategies that work Create energy and encourage teams and staff Reinforce staff and teams for their work Teach new strategies
TLE Example Group Activity As A Group, Identify TLE Key Elements in Example At Left: District/School Level of Implementation Problem Decision Rule Eval. Tools Intervention description Evidence of outcomes Timeframes (pre/post) Astumbo Elementary School in GUSD began implementing PBIS in 2011-2012 school year, achieving fidelity at Tier 1 with a School-wide Evaluation Tool (SET) score of 71%, Self Assessment Survey (SAS) of 65%, and Team Implementation Checklist (TIC) score of 70%. Implementing with fidelity impacted student outcomes, with 86% of students having 0-1 office discipline referrals (ODRs) for the year. The school team continued to refine their Tier 1 systems and in 2012-2013 raised their SET score to 87%, Self Assessment Survey (SAS) of 80%, Team Implementation Checklist (TIC) score of 95%, and their percentage of students with 0-1 ODRs to 90%. This trend appears to be continuing in 2013-14 with 97% of students having 0-1 ODRs for August through December.
Coaches Activity – Taking a look at your Schools data? Go to PBIS Assessment and School-wide Information System (SWIS) Pull out the information outlined on the TLE template (see document) Share out as a large group – How did you or your small group do? – What questions do you have? – What’s your comfort level in creating TLE’s?

Coaching Skill: Thoughtful and Reflective Questioning The success of reflective questioning does not depend on asking “just the right question” It relies much more on creating opportunities for respondents to think aloud and construct meaning for themselves Barnett, B.V., Lee,G.V. (1994, Winter). Using Reflective Questioning To Promote Collaborative Dialogue. Journal of Staff Development, 15(1). 20.
Coaching Skill: Thoughtful and Reflective Questioning Questioning can serve two purposes: ▪Help inform the coach of the team’s knowledge and intentions ▪Help the team clarify its thinking and uncover possibilities and solutions
Coaching Skill: Thoughtful and Reflective Questioning Using carefully chosen questions will allow the coach to: guide teams to be reflective of their practice support the team’s progress through the planning and improvement process supports both short ‐ term and long ‐ term capacity building goals: the short ‐ term goal of helping the team to generate a solution to the issue at hand the long term goal of helping the team develop the skills and tools to handle similar issues in the future independently
Coaching Skill: Thoughtful and Reflective Questioning Activity: In pairs or triads Read the problem statements Individually, choose which Question Stem you would use in each situation Discuss with your partner(s)
