Sir Walter Raleigh Walter Raleigh was born in Devon in 1552 He started in the court of the Queen, Elizabeth I, where he soon became her favorite He was married to made of honor and was hated and arrested. Went on three expedition and it wasn't until the third when he found what is presently Virginia

3. Funds Even though he was the queen’s favorite he spent most of his money on ships and supplies, all he needed Elizabeth approval to go, which he got after a few years. He had to have ships to get though the Spanish Armada He needed plenty of food and water and supplies Brought back potatoes and tobacco, making smoking popular

4. He sailed west to the Carolina's and started a colony, which failed. Main aim was to find El Dorado on the first voyage, failed. He also left this time to flee his jail time. Raleigh had a very love hate relationship with the queen and ended up in jail quite a few time and ultimately executed.
