1 Lewis and Clark Expedition

2 St. Louis Missouri They started their trip upstream on the Missouri River at the St. Louis area camp. At St. Louis Missouri they prepared for the expedition. It was important because St. Louis provided them with a river.

3 Fort Mandan Fort Mandan was in North Dakota near the Missouri, River.
At Fort Mandan they build a fort. It was important because they build a fort to protect them from the winter and the Siuox Indians.

4 Rocky Mountains The Rocky Mountains are at the Great Falls near the Continental Divide. At the Rocky Mountains they bought horses from the Shoshone Indians. It was important because they met Sacajawea’s brother who provided them with horses.

5 Columbia River The Columbia River was after the Snake River around the Cascades. They carried their goods and canoes over the river’s rough spots. It was important because at this point they were close to the end of their trip.

6 Pacific Ocean The Pacific Ocean was west of the Columbia River.
At the Pacific Ocean they built a fort called Fort Clatsop, and they spent their winter there. It was important because it was the end of the trip, and they spent their time working on maps and storing food for the trip back.

7 Other discoveries On their trip, they saw elk, deer, buffalo, beaver, the Yankton Sioux, and Hidatsa Indians. They also saw the Great Falls, and Sacajewea’s brother.

8 What the Lewis and Clark Expedition Means to me
They made a lot of hard decisions they thought were right, and they went through a lot of hard times. Together they did a lot of team work and helped each other a lot. I also think if they wouldn’t have gone on their trip, I wouldn’t be here right now.
