2 DIRECTIONS The following slides contain steps for setting up and using Windows Live Messenger. The graphics on each slide are animated to illustrate the steps. They are set to loop so that you may view them more than once if necessary. Click with the left mouse button to progress through the slides at your own pace.

3 INSTALLATION Open the following web site: http://get.live.com/messenger/overview Click Get it Free button to go to the next screen. Remove checks from check boxes according to your preferences. Click Install button.

4 INSTALLATION (Continued) Click Save. Click on Desktop. Click Save button. Close the download box. Close the Messenger window. Double click the install file. Click Run.

5 INSTALLATION (Continued) Windows Installer will load. Installation will start automatically. Place a check- mark beside any optional com- ponents you want. Click close on the Installer when Installation completes.

6 INSTALLATION (Continued) The Close button you clicked will load a sign up screen. Click Sign Up button. Fill in your information. Click I Accept button.

7 SIGNING IN Locate Windows Live Messenger in the Start Menu. Click on it. Key in your account info. Click Sign In.

8 CUSTOMIZING Click the drop down arrow beside your name. Click Options. Click through items on the left, making changes as appropriate. Click OK when finished.

9 ADDING A CONTACT Click the New Contact button. Enter the desired information about the contact. Click Add Contact button.

10 CHATTING To begin chatting, double click an online contact. Type a message. Click Send or press Enter. Notice how the emoticon was inserted.

11 CHANGING STATUS Click File, Status and click on one of the following: Online Busy Be Right Back Away In a Call Out to Lunch Appear Offline

12 VIDEO CONFERENCING One of the great advantages of Windows Live Messenger is video conferencing with your cohorts. Click Actions, Video and click on one of the following: Start a Video Call Show Your Webcam View a Contact’s Webcam

13 VIDEO CONFERENCING (Continued) To set up your webcam, click Tools, Webcam Settings. Follow the instructions given on subsequent screens to set up microphone audio level and webcam light and focus settings.

14 MORE FEATURES Click the Invite button to invite an online contact to chat. Other features in this window include: Changing picture Sharing files Calling contacts (requires audio video set up)

15 MORE FEATURES (Continued) More features include: Activities Games Block contact Change color Change background Display menu bar

16 SIGNING OUT Close the Chat window if it is open. Right click the Windows Live Messenger icon in the Notification Area (near the clock). Click Sign Out. Click the close button.
